My son doesn't hold his correctly. Drives me mad. He's right handed and holds his knife in his left hand. Because he's always done it he's crap and cutting with both hands.
nope.....but i will now! it drives me mad! x
When I see people holding their knife like I pen I want to whip it off them and plunge it in to their neck ;-p
I'm always surprised how many people hold their cutlery correctly generally, not just on TV shows. I can't work out why they were taught to use their knives and forks the way they do - apart from looking awkward, it's often really inefficient and I wonder what they do when they get a tougher bit of meat (or a blunt knife!!)
Lol @ snags, me too

Dave.
They're probably sitting in ridiculous fancy dress at a dinner party and you're worried about how they hold their knife and fork
beckersjay - they learn to take bigger mouthfuls, which is as equally annoying.
I meant incorrectly!
I'm frequently astonished by the contorted grip some people use. I thought I was the only one who noticed it!
It drives me freaking bonkers!

Snags, I'm with you there! lol
I saw someone eating garden peas off their knife recently... I wish I'd had a Taser...
How did they manage that?
Using the flat of it like a spoon.

(like you don't know) ;-p
It's that, plus people who hold their writing instruments peculiarly - but the cutlery thing always strikes me as odd. They must have been brought up by people who didn't know the rules (or didn't use cutlery)
I used to work with someone who held both her knife and fork like a pen! I found it really distracting when we had a meal together as I would be completely mesmerised watching her trying to cut meat!
Boxy - but my son doesn't hold his the right way even though the other 4 of us do. No about of nagging and moaning has changed this.

Snags - you're cruising buddy!!
To me it is maybe of passing interest, but if people are being nice and being pleasant and sociable, does it matter?
What about Americans?
The Americans seem to eat with just a folk.
They do that cutting-up the food thing, then abandon the knife.
It's fine by me.
I am left handed and use my knife and fork in the correct hands and correct manner, I can however use my spoon in my right hand - no matter how much my mother used to slap me!!
