Meant to say, our ex-neighbours had two lovely little girls. He was a Green Jacket in the Army fighting abroad & his wife was a secretary, living at home. I could never understand why they chose to send their girls aged 6 & 8 years, to a Convent boarding school approx 100 miles from here, as the Mother lived at home.
They asked if my husband & I would like to go with them to take the girls back to the boarding school after a short break. We will never forget walking into that place. You were not allowed to talk 'normally', only whipser & quietly walk along the pristine shiny wooden floors to their dormitary.
There was a row of neatly made beds with just one soft toy on each pillow. They were not allowed to have any other toys, or personal belongings on their beds, or outside their little cabinets. It just didn't seem natural for little children to be brought up in this way, especailly when their Mother was at home & able to do the 'job' herself!
