Renault Clio won't start - sometimes!
5 Answers
I have an R reg Renault Clio 1.2.
It started about 1 month ago and has got worse and worse.
In the mornings, or leaving work, the car won't start.
It turns over, but won't fire up.
Took to the garage and they said they can't fix as it is a fault with the immobiliser. Not sure how this could be the case. If it was the immobiliser, surely nothing would happen???
I will pump the accelerator for a bit, keep turning the key, push the car a bit and eventually it will fire up.
I mentioned the spark plugs to the garage but they said that wasn't the problem.
Help!!

I had the exact same problem with two models of clio's
I used to have to park it on a hill 2 bump start but as it didn't do it everytime couldnt get to the bottom of it
I had rac out who took me to a renault garage they said it was the starter motor so changed that and it was fine for a few weeks anyway then it started doing it again
I am wondering if it's a fault on them
I love clio's and I really miss mine
I got rid of it soon after that so never did get to what was really wrong with it
Is yours a new one?
My last one was a T reg

My wifes 1.2 52 plate Clio has just been fixed after it started miss firing and then refused to start after we pulled over.
Took it along to out local independant garage and he spent over a day trying to resolve the problem. The on board computer was throwig up errors re the injectors but this along with others were false reading. Eventually traced it back to a problemwith the main ECU. Looks like moisture gets in here, normally dries out but seems to have got onto the main board and has caused dry solder joints. He cleaned these off and resoldered and it started first time.
I guess at a main dealer they would have just replaced the ECU and charged big bucks.
