hi all, my insurance policy is up at the end of the month, my renewal has gone up a staggering 55% with the company i'm with and i think its ridicolous. i've done numerous quotes online and all the prices are between £1000 and £2000 and some are more.
my renewal price is just shy of £600 (almost double).
does anyone know a good site to get a competitive price as i have 9 years bonus, have driven for 11 years with no accidents.
all i want is a good price with good excess fees (just incase) as i think £550 plus are stupidly high excess fees.
any sites or companies would be great.

i have tried, e-car , more than, compare the market, confused, elephant, admiral and the list goes on...

Depends on your car. My insurance is with EGG and it's £350 fully comp with another named driver. That's for a peaugeot 306.
Not much help old mate, but I think you, like the rest of us are paying for the scumbags operating 'whiplash' scams.

all i can suggest is try swift cover, and try to make your excess a little higher than you would normally pay that will bring the quote down a bit!
most of us shop around so will all recommend what we have. I've changed to Axa this year. it was a competitive quote.

what car do you have and how old are you?

i'm with swift cover for this year but its gone up way too much.
i drive an audi a3 sport.
i will try egg and see what they come up with.

derek, there was a news report by a few months ago that a local man had been jailed for causing 94 accidents so he could claim whiplash, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that no one can make 94 claims in 2 years also it should have been aware to insurance companies way before this amount...

egg also want close to £1000
Audi A3 sport will be the problem. I use to have an Astra Sport. The premiums on that were pretty high.

its not a really a major high insurance group and this year i paid £390 fully comp with my missus to drive also.
ridicoulous prices
Everyone's insurance has gone up in past months, not to do with your record etc., insurers' rates have gone up to cover their claims experience.
wilkesneil - The fraudster in the "cash for crash" conspiracy you mentioned did not make the claims; he drove the 93-plus cars and caused the collisions for which each of the car owners claimed.

This type of insurance fraud appears to be endemic in the North West...

thanks Aberrant, I didn't have all the details on that as I only heard it on the radio on my way from work 1 day and the radio news don't really go into much detail.
why would someone actually want to put their self in danger as even a controlled crash can turn nasty..
It's not usually a 'crash', more a slow rear-end shunt at a junction or roundabout.

i seen it on tv before where ppl were driving in front of lorries and slamming brakes on.
its ridicolous really, if anyone is caught doing this they shouldn't be allowed to drive for 5 years to teach them a lesson and they should personally pay for all repairs to other vehicle, this would stop it.

"Although the number of accidents on Britain's roads has thankfully been falling, the cost of repairing cars has been rising at a rate of between 7 and 10%."

"Added to that, the number and value of personal injury claims being made following car accidents have been rising. Many people who may not have bothered to make a claim for minor or even non-existent injuries in past accidents are being encouraged to do so by unscrupulous accident injury claim lawyers."

"Insurers have been making huge underwriting losses – some estimates suggesting that for every £1 taken in premiums £1.22 is being paid out in claims. The losses have been made worse by poor investment performance and the weak pound, so insurer reserves are running on empty."

Insurers are detecting more fraudulent insurance claims than ever according to figures released by the ABI. Last year over 2,000 dishonest insurance claims worth more than £16 million were detected every week.

nothing has changed,
same car, same drivers, no mods, no claims or points.
only changes are extra years no claims bonus (now i have 9) and me and the missus are a year older...
That's the point... premiums are being increased dramatically because of factors independent of your personal circumstances. Imagine how much the increase would be if your status had changed.

It's interesting that insurance companies blame the people making false claims and their loss in profits for the increase in premiums. Admiral Insurance had record profits in 2009 judging by this BBC article: http://news.bbc.co.uk...outh_east/8544715.stm

This year my car insurance when up from £400 odd to £600 odd, that's with no changes and an extra year no claims discount. It's legal theft really. I can understand paying more in terms of inflation and everything, but it's absolutely ridiculous. Much like the banking scandal, it's another money industry whereby the honest people get ripped, and those without a conscience - be they the insurance scammer or the insurer with ridiculous premiums, profits greatly.
Insurance premiums are calculated on several factors. wilkesneil. The value of the car is one, as is it's attraction to thieves. Another factor is the area you live.

I agree with mdoo98. The Fully Comp. insurance on my VW Golf has only increased by a few pounds per year for the last few years. About 5 years ago it was £90.15 for the year. Last year it was £136 and I renewed in May for £146 (£2.80 per week) so it's only gone up by £10 this year. I think the main problem is the fact you've got an Audi A3.
