Just done my mothers annual car tax and it was £260 - Noted in the file that two years ago this was £120 - now that is serious inflation.

Looks like more tax raising through the back door - given 17 mln vehicles on the road, thats an incremental £2 billion for the Exchequer.....

when I taxed my car 2 years ago, I'm sure that it was £120 for six months. Might be wrong, though.
Depends on the car. Mines only about £40.

it was for a year and then a Honda Civic - now an A3 - just about the same sized engine but this one has a turbo
I haven't had a car for over a year. About what would I pay in tax for, say, a Peugeot 206, circa 2000/2001?

I would have thought the 260 - just gone up from 245 which was quoted on the DVLA renewal form.
Really?!! Thieving b*****ds
mine is 115.50 for 6 months!
Tried that link, Boxtops, but the drop-down boxes don't work.
Just got my renewal today - £143 for 6 months or £260 for the year (so they make £26 out of me if I only get the 6 months worth - thieving gits).
What age, make and model is yours, sherrard?
There has been a 10% surcharge on the cost of all sub-12 month Tax Discs since the 1930s.
my car cost £0 road tax - but my motorbike costs £50 per year so i won't complain to much.
Hi Mickey (sorry, I was putting the youngest to bed). It is a Chrysler Grand Voyager about a 2.8 engine (I think).
Sorry it is a 2005 car.
Don't forget that it's "emissions" that govern a car's road tax rate - this year my petrol car went up £10 but my diesel car went down £10.
Ginge, I thought that the emissions thing was only for post-2001 cars. Wasn't it engine size for cars earlier than that?
Thanks, Sherrard :)
All vehicles with a combustion engine require a tax disc. VED band A cars (CO2 emissions below 100 g/km) get it absolutely free, but even small motorcycles have to pay £16. Acquiring a car with emissions above 100 g/km is a choice, not a need.

With such high CO2 emissions your mother probably spends more on fuel than VED.
