I'm curious about something and maybe someone here can enlighten me. Why is it that some people will drive at 40mph in a 60mph zone even if all conditions are fine? I know 60 "is the limit and not the target" but in my opinion 20mph lower than the limit is excessively slow (conditions depending of course). So, I'm intrigued...why?

If that's the same bit I'm thinking of, I enjoyed that.

eerrr, depends what you're driving/riding JJ. I've got a Golf but I've learnt the the fact it's a Golf does not effect the fact it is only a 1.6. lol
Chuck if you are constantly stuck behind the car you probably haven't noticed the guy walking in front of him carrying the red flag.Ron.
I just lost my connection.

chuck ... it's nice to do that bit of road at times of day when it's clear.

Or when it's sunny, and the roof is down.
What makes me seethe is, on a single track A road, following a car that does 50mph downhill, 30mph uphill and 40mph on the flat, and 40mph through a 30mph village ...
I agree, ellipsis.

I think it's only when you stick on the cruise control, so you are going at a constant speed, that you see how erratic some people's speed can be,
Re-tests every decade would just be a money spinner for the government, and a king size pain in the rear for the rest of us - especially as we'd be paying. Please don't give them any ideas.

Seems to me that if there were enough police out there actually checking driving then they would be best placed to recommend particular drivers for a re-test.
The worst example of slow driving I ever encountered was on a country road in Somerset, the driver was doing between ten and fifteen MPH along a winding road and every time they came to a blind bend they would move to the right hand side, I assume in an attempt to see if anything was coming. Fortunately there wasn't.
I know what you mean Old Geezer.
:-)

Yes I have cruise control on my latest car and it is strange to have your suspicions confirmed. Folk really do speed up as you approach them from behind, presumably because they ave to undergo the affront to their dignity of being overtaken; and really do overtake you and then slow down once they have pulled back in ahead.

Yesterday I passed someone on the motorway only to find, as soon as they got into my blind spot, they decided they wanted to speed up and undertake me. Irritating though that is, I was even more perplexed a few miles later when I caught up with them again.
on my way to work the road varies from 30mph>>40>>>50>>I can more or less tell how long it will take me to get there at 40 mph, I do not tear @rse, if the car behind want to pass I will indicate to the left when its clear to pass, with the cost of fuel why rush?
"why rush"

Because ... well, err ... because ...

... that's what cars are for ??
The price of fuel is making drivers think of economy too, but that still allows driving in the "thrifty fifties" for a modern car.
My car has three speed ...

(1) Parked

(2) Heavy traffic

(3) Spank the arse off it

That's normal, right ?
Surely the best way to come into B&H is over Devil's Dyke JJ. When you come up the last hill the view of the sea on three sides is breathtaking. Lifts the heart. Works for me everytime. Eyes right when you go past the pikeys, obviously!
In the US major highways may have a max of 55 to 65mph (and even up to 80 in W Texas) but there is frequently a minimum, usally 40 but I have seen 50.....
They are members of 'the 40 club'. They do 40 in a 30 zone, 40 in national speed limit roads, I believe they also do 40 up their drive into their garage too.

Years ago they tended to drive Fiat Unos. Now they seem to have migrated to the Toyota Yaris.

Not that everyone behind the wheel of an Uno or Yaris was a lug. They just tended to be the sort of car these berks went for.
Because they ar e Salad Chefs.
