Please solve an argument for me
I have an 07 plate Mercedes SLK. I love that bloody car. It's got 85k on the clock. The OH has just managed to sell it (not that I asked him to, so that is an issue between us) - he got £10k for it.
He wants me to buy either a BMW Alpina or an 03 Jag XKR in its place. Frankly, I don't see the point in trading in an 07 car for an 03 car with similar mileage. And I bloody hate BMWs. Please can someone give me some substantial reason for keeping my SLK other than the fact that its mine and I like it.

We discuss something as a possibility (we did talk about it earlier and I said in no uncertain terms that I would keep the car until next March/April and then consider my options) and before I know it I have apparently "agreed to it". Not the case here.
Snags, no he doesn't. Although the fact that he still has one is really in my gift.............

He thinks he knows more about cars than anyone else, Daffy. The car is nearly 5 years old and has 85k on the clock. He is therefore concerned about depreciation. Frankly, I've had it since new so the majority of the depreciation has already happened. But the new model is now out (or shortly to be out, I can't remember, he knows) so the market for my model will diminish.
Frankly, I couldn't give a sod whether it is the new model or the old model but this is apparently an issue.
I just don't "get" the idea of trading mine in for an 03 plate with similar mileage. I think its a Sugar idea. The car is mine, its paid for, why can't I just continue driving it til it dies and who give a bugger about depreciation. Surely depreciation is only an issue if you trade in?
