I have an 07 plate Mercedes SLK. I love that bloody car. It's got 85k on the clock. The OH has just managed to sell it (not that I asked him to, so that is an issue between us) - he got £10k for it.

He wants me to buy either a BMW Alpina or an 03 Jag XKR in its place. Frankly, I don't see the point in trading in an 07 car for an 03 car with similar mileage. And I bloody hate BMWs. Please can someone give me some substantial reason for keeping my SLK other than the fact that its mine and I like it.

you should put the chickens *in* his car!
^ eh at tambo!!!

Given a choice between a SLK, a XKR and a 6 series BMW you suggest a skateboard!
I honestly can't imagine how an OH could sell something their partner loved. To me it's absolutely outrageous - the car is yours to do with as you see fit - if he can do this then what's to stop him selling your kydney, clothes whatever? Smacks of a total lack of respect.
Why does he want you to sell it in the first place? What are his reasons for all of this?
chuck are you on a desktop or iphone - that's the difference.
Are you trying to say an iphone is better than a desktop PC? if so hahahahahahahahahaha

He just goes too far rsvp. We discuss something as a possibility (we did talk about it earlier and I said in no uncertain terms that I would keep the car until next March/April and then consider my options) and before I know it I have apparently "agreed to it". Not the case here.

Snags, no he doesn't. Although the fact that he still has one is really in my gift.............
Because Jags are driven by our dads.

And BMWs are driven by our mums.

So keep the Merc, cos Mercs are driven by ... oh, also our dads.

Sorry, forget this line of argument.
Buy a (big) motorbike - simples ;)
sounds as though you are being manipulated Barmaid. Of course there may be factors we aren't aware of but all I can say is I would never, ever stand for that.

He thinks he knows more about cars than anyone else, Daffy. The car is nearly 5 years old and has 85k on the clock. He is therefore concerned about depreciation. Frankly, I've had it since new so the majority of the depreciation has already happened. But the new model is now out (or shortly to be out, I can't remember, he knows) so the market for my model will diminish.

Frankly, I couldn't give a sod whether it is the new model or the old model but this is apparently an issue.

I just don't "get" the idea of trading mine in for an 03 plate with similar mileage. I think its a Sugar idea. The car is mine, its paid for, why can't I just continue driving it til it dies and who give a bugger about depreciation. Surely depreciation is only an issue if you trade in?
You're right Barmaid, depreciation is only an issue if you want to sell or trade in, if you want to do neither then there is nothing to worry about in my opinion.
Its got way load mileage left in it, just as long as you switch the cam-shaft belt out (do that if you havent already).......

Keep it - I think its a bl--dy nerve and I'm a man, I think,......
BMWs are for people who "think" they have class ................. Mercedes are for those with no need to prove they do ..............
I guess your OH is depreciating rapidly as he sits beside you, barmaid :-)
@boxtops - "best reply"
Have you thought of telling him that he is depreciating in value and it may soon be time to trade him in? Keep the car and get rid of him. lol
barmaid that's the whole point - you can just drive it until it dies - it's yours and if that's what you want to do you don't have to get permission to do so -unless of course there is some sort of domestic arrangement which is the issue.
Barmaid all I can say is that your bloke must have bigger balls then the ones that used to be on Fylingdale Moor or be thick as a brick. If I'd tried that with Trish I'd have be talking in a squeaky voice by now.
