Definately not a fixed penalty , you were more than 50% over the limit. A ban is a strong possibility .

Although I'm not in posession of a halo, like many here, In my defence I have never claimed off insurance. I have on occasion been hit by some numpty not looking but I've never actually claimed myself

The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) has guidelines to assist the police and Safety Camera Partnerships in deciding whether to offer a fixed penalty or issue a summons. The guidance for 50mph limits is a fixed penalty for speeds of 57-75mph and a summons for speeds of 76mph or more. So it seems most likely you will receive a summons.

As far as Magistrates’ sentencing guidelines go, they are only specific up to 86mph. For that speed the recommended penalty is a fine of a week’s net income (reduced by a third if you plead guilty) and either a ban of up to 56 days or six penalty points. So you can expect at least that. You will also have to pay a contribution towards prosecution costs (usually around £80 for a guilty plea – considerably more if you are found guilty at trial) and a £15 Victim Surcharge.

I do not condone your speeding D9 you were quite a bit over the top, but how many of us that criticise people for speeding when we have done it ourselves? you will be very luck if you do not get a month d9, I often use the M6>> M56 going to my Mothers, there are plenty of times I have hit 80+ without thinking, the police once told me its the drivers that move in / out /in /in / out of lanes that they pull.

i think because nowhere is 90 a speed limit, it is much worse than 30 over in say a 70 in a 40 situation, and will be viewed as such in court

i once had to sit in a car for 5 hours with an idiot friend with a sports car who thought it was oh so cool and clever to drive at over 100 all the way there, and seemed to think that because she hadnt crashed yet it was all ok (conveniently forgetting the few minor crashes she has had) and felt that all the little 'near misses' as she slammed on and weaved in an out of lanes etc, didnt count as bad driving because she hadnt hit anyone...
i was praying for a policeman or machine to catch her, to teach her a lesson.

When you do get the summons don't plead guilty in writing actually turn up at the court and be humble and apologize for your driving. It may well be the diffrence between a ban and a fine.

Whenever a speeding question is posed you always gets the pious out in force wishing you to have an eternity in hell with red hot pokers shoved up your arse for this most heinous of crimes.

Still, it is good to know that all of the people condemning you have never once, ever, been over the speed limit - they are truly an example to us all.

I think we would all agree - including d9f1c7 - that this is unacceptable driving, but the court will decide his punishment, and we should not be taking the moral high ground on here.

The concensus seems to be that a ban is possible, plus points and an insurance hike, so I am sure a lesson has been learned - by all of us.

A truly terrible loss Starbuckone - I would be inconsolable if it happened to a child of mine - but I would suggest it was the car being on the wrong side of the road that was more to blame than the speeding.

ojread, "so what" I was attempting to point out that although I have transgressed on occasion I am not a causer of accidents and a fount of all evil as many on here seem to assume based on one sample.
