Cycling On The Pavement, What's Your Excuse?

One of my bug bears I suppose but I'm old school, trained to cycle on the road properly and obey road rules etc. Anyway the other day I was walking home and some numpty on a bike got right up behind and rang his bell. I did not move at all and after a bit more ringing I turned around and pointed out the road about 2 feet to his left and said "get on the road, why are you on the pavement?" - Here's the good bit, he said and I kid ye not, it was less dangerous to pedestrians if he cycles on the pavement that it is to cyclists to cycle on the road - I've only just stopped ranting! How has it got to the stage now where most cyclists think that cycling on the pavement is ok? Dropping the kerbs at the corners hasn't helped here either.

Shame you didn't get the number plate, and you could have reported the numpty for driving without due care and attention.

I seen something similar where a lorry crossed a junction and nearly hit a cyclist.

Well, I stand by what I've been saying all along. I would much, much rather "annoy" someone like the OP, than risk getting knocked down by a dangerous driver.
As long as you're not rude, then I really don't see why it's such a big deal.

Cyclist riding on the pavement sometimes gets in my way. But, I'd much rather they ride on the pavement than get run-over by a lunatic driver.

We have dual use paths round us clearly marked which sections should be used by cycists and which should be used by pedestrians. With pedestrians they tend to walk where the hell they like but expect cyclists to adhere strictly to the lane markings. They dont like to share very well!

As a kid I cycled everywhere. Some streets I'd use the road, others I'd use the path. I've been knocked off my bike on the road but I've never knocked into someone on the path.

What are cyclists suppose to do in town centres now they've been pedestrianised? Go the long way round?

The 'copper' was a local PCSO who doubtless heard my cry of anguish and expletives. My initial thought was: I'm over the bonnet here, wheel gone minimum, maybe the forks too.
All that despite a flashing white light on the handlebar stem, predominantly white top, predominantly white bike.
I'd had the helmet cam a week, bought it because of too many similar incidents.

I am an erratic walker. By that I mean that when I am walking along a pavement I can quickly change my direction to look at a shop window or something else of interest. How I haven't been knocked over by a cyclist from behind I do not know.
