I have size 12 feet and was in the Army when I learned.
Every time I pressed the brake in my size 12 boots I would press the accelerator too!

UK, Licence, Vauxhall Viva HA Passed 1st time
Zambian Licence, Peugeot 504 Pick Up. Passed 2nd time
Saudi Arabian Licence ( actually a company permit as Saudi has no driving test or road rules) Chevrolet 5.5 Litre Pick Up Truck. Passed 2nd time.
I still have 3 valid driving licenses and international licences on the Zambian and Saudi ones so 5 licences in total.
The company driving permit for Saudi is actually based on the California advanced driving test.

1933 Morris Minor !

I claim the prize for the oldest first car. My dad bought it for me because he didn't want me to buy a motorbike. It had cable brakes that you could adjust while moving by lifting a trap door in the footwell and tightening a wing nut. The body was timber framed, covered with metal. I nearly got pinched by a copper when I told him that a sagging driver's door was due to dry rot ! He thought I was taking the proverbial.

Oh, and the accelerator was in the middle of the three pedals.

If you drove before they had tests you had a full licence, and how full it was, never mind about international. My old man was one such driver and his licence allowed him to drive absolutely everything. I was amused to discover that he was deemed to be able to drive a trolley bus without 'dewiring' it. Don't suppose he ever tried, which would have been a relief to the citizens of London

Only reason it took 2 attempts to pass the Zambian test (one of very few places that does not allow you to exchange a UK licence for a local one)was that the instructor told me '' I never pass anyone first time'' he also failed another expat for '' having a beard'' I kid you not !
I only failed the Saudi test 1st time because the examiner fell asleep while I was driving, I had to shake him to wake him up when we got back to the test station. He told me '' there is nothing wrong with your driving but I can't pass you as I was asleep!'' Again I kid you not!

My father was the same Fred, no test, and I have his licence, must be from when they were first introduced, with his signature on every stuck-on tab. It had to be renewed every so often, maybe 3 years if I remember correctly. I'm sure it's wine coloured, provisionals were yellow and I think renewed every 6 months.
