If you have two cars you can have different insurance companies provide insurance for each car. If you are asking if you can have two policies on one car then the answer strictly is yes, but if the insurers were to find that you had another policy in respect of the same vehicle they would probably insist that you chose to stick with one or the other. Anyway if you had a claim each insurer would only pay half of the claim, so you would have paid two whole premiums, and only got half cover from each!
If you have two cars you can sometimes get a bit of discount when insuring them from one Insurance company, ask around, thats worth doing anyway it's amazing what you can save, I had been with one company for about 8 years, they said it was going up again as cost had risen as usual, I looked around on the net and got better cover for 100 cheaper so I set that up as my old policy was going to laps, when I phoned my old Company to say I was canceling as I  had found it cheaper by 100 they said they can match that, I said it was too late they shouldn't have tried to con me by trying to increase the premium, when they could have put it down by 100, therefore as far as I could see they had been robbing me all those years.
