More Oil in a Honda?

Hi Folks!  I have had my [V registered]Honda Civic 1.6iSE for about 18 months now and I think she gets through a lot of oil.  At the garage [very trustworthy, NOT cowboys!] they've told me not to worry, and that "she's a bit of an oil burner".  I used to drive a mazda 323F GLXi, and seem to remember just topping up the oil "as and when".

I'd say I do a mileage above average (20k/year) and I do tend to "leather it"so to speak, but are Honda Civics known for getting through more than average quantities of oil?

I used to work on Honda engined Rovers, and owned a Honda Civic Coupe 1.6iSR VTEC and I can't remember any using much oil.  In fact I always found that the oil level hardly ever moved of the max mark on the dipstick.

Are you getting much blue smoke from the exhaust?

When you say a lot of oil, how much are you talking about?

I read somewhere that the VTEC system of the engine uses oil.  If you are reving enough to enable the VTEC cams to come in (on mine it's at 5,500 rpm and oh yes it is very addictive!).

Just sold my Honda Civic 1.6 after 6 years of fault free owenership.
Never had to add a drop ov oil between services.
