Do you still need to know the highway code before you take the test? Should my grand daughter buy it and read it ?

If she does not she will fail Smurf.
Of course she will....the theory is what a lot of folk fail on !!
YIKES I hope so!
I think every vehicle should carry a copy of the Highway Code, seems to me that once you have passed your test, the HC is forgotten about.

I bought a copy a couple of years ago and was surprised at how much I had forgotten.
Your grand daughter will need to know the Highway Code for the theory test, but I would have thought any driver needs to read it.
It's been a while since I took my test; is there no need for anyone to know road signs, speed limits, stopping distances (however outdated they are), how to negotiate roundabouts and junctions, etc?
Of coure they do Eccles. how could you otherwise tell if your entering a one way street?
Indeed TWR, and that is learnt comprehensively by studying the Highway Code......

I don't mean to offend anyone, but I can't believe that had to be asked!
I agree Baldric, perhaps the GD is being rather casual about it all???
This surely can't be a serious question?
From the standard of driving recently seen, it seems a lot of people think they don't have to read the highway code.

You actually need to know it far better than those of us who took it a while ago. It's needed to pass the theory test which has to be done first. I don't think you get asked questions in the actual driving test though (like you used to before the theory test was brought in).
