That's fine for you youngsters, Tonyav, but for us old fogies the driving world apparently began on 11th Feb 1975 - most of my "valid from" dates are "

ok .sorted then, bet that got you all digging your licences out. lol
All categories shown on Cat 9 of my photo licence show valid from 13-12-73 on Cat 10 box.I passed my test in 68 which was soon after my 17th birthday in late November 67.I would guess, then, that I passed my test on or around 13-12-68 which would be about correct.Apparently when the agency concerned with driving licences and tests(Ministry of Transport I believe) passed the responsibility to DVLA back in the 70's they did not pass on the driving test date records to the DVLA.It would appear that a good guess,,providing it is within a year, could not be disputed.
the new photo licence seems to lack the from dates for older passers, mine is correct (Col 10) . Do you have anything in col 11? ie the expiry date. If you know your age when passing the test you can work it out the year from that:
E-70+A where A= age passed test and E is the year of expiry. The Insurers don't need an exact date normally, then just want to know how long you've had a fulll licence.
sorry just noticed you know the year!, they won't need an exact date.
I never sat a test here so anything on my licence will be wrong.
Interesting that the same 1975 date crops up for both me and Baldric .As it's of no significance to me (no extra category, no house move etc) I assumed it corresponded with some government/administration change. It doesn't explain why Tonyav's date doesn't agree if he passed his test before then. My test was 1965, incidentally, with motorbike added on 30th March 1976.
It would make more sense for me if they asked when we started driving regularly, to assess your record. I passedmy test in 1974 but I didn't have access to a car until 1990 - I then opted to take some further lessons, I needed 8 before I was deemed up to test standard, having not driven for some 16 years after taking the test.

I've given up trying to get my M/C Pass transferred onto my Licence, unlikely I'll ride again so no point really, still got the 'Little Red Book' with it in though!
jno you got your licence pre test(01/04/34)? you must be at least 99! or did you do the army "test" during WW2? Confused!

I've got 6 groups in column 10 all valid from 11/02/75.

I'm a bit bothered, do you think I am still allowed to drive Steam Rollers ?
I have never seen insurance ask for the date you passed the test only the number of years you have held a full licence and then it only goes up to '9 years or over'
Mine was sometime in 1970 or 1971 no idea of the actual date.
TTT, I am an economic migrant. The UK government has no idea where or when, if at all, I did a test. I turned up here and swapped my old licence for a UK one.
Any insurance quote I have filled in over the years since the internet reared it's ugly head, just asked, 1,2,3,4,5 or more than 10 years.

I passed my test in March 1968.
I've had a couple of insurance websites ask for date-passed-test, Eddie. They ask for year and month in case it's recent. If you don't supply a month it won't let you move on to the next page.
when was that jno? Now days you have to do a test, i think within 2 years of settling here.
Get some time in, you lot.

I passed my test in 1955 on a wooden framed 1933 Morris Minor 1 !
