I have a Scenic 2001 1.6 16v and it is currently misfireing badly. The two outer coils are not creating a spark, changed coils, plugs, checked ECU contacts seem ok. What can it be?

I don't know, but I would get  mobile Crypton type tune-up done . Costs about 30 but would save you more money in the long run. Good luck.
Question Author
What do you mean by crypton type tune-up has this got something to do with the ECU?
A mobile engine tuner will come to your house with a van packed with electronics which checks everything on your engine from spark plugs, coil, battery, ECU charging system to fuel mixture and emissions. My bloke starts off by checking and adjusting the tappets before he looks at anything else ! Try and get that done for under 30 quid !   Prices may be about 40 for a tune up now but I always found it well worth the money. Check your Yellow Pages for Mobile Engine Tuning. Some may use a system other than Crypton but they do the same thing.
