I used to have a smart car and they wave at each other .... except the sports cars
My husband has a defender and signals to other land rovers ....except freelanders!

My first truck was a 2nd hand C reg DAF ATi Spacecab like the one at the top of this page http://www.flickriver.com/groups/1663639@N21/pool/interesting/
though mine was maroon. At the time, they were just about the best owner/drivers motor you could get and you would always 'flash' another one. Sadly, I haven't seen one on the road for several years (I sold mine in '95).

My mum used to have a bright red Isetta Bubble Car - front-opening, no reverse gear, so you could drive in on a motorbike licence.

All Bubble Car drivers waved or flashed lights - there were not that many.

She bought it new for £300, and sold it five years later for £250 - those were the days!!

I don't have a car so I don't think it counts if I wave from the bus does it?

I saw someone wearing the same kind of trainers as me the other day, perhaps 'trainer etiquette' says I should have waved at him?
