Vauxhall Mokka Spare Wheel
I am wanting a spare wheel for my Mokka which has 18’’ tyres on at the moment. It did not come with a spare. I am assuming a space saver would be the best option to put in the wheel well as a normal 18’’ tyre does not fit in the wheel well and I do not want it to take up room in my boot. I am assuming I need to get a 16’’ space saver wheel?
My other question is, would an 16’’ steel rim and tyre fit in the wheel well, as I would prefer this to a space saver if it would fit?
Thanks in advance

It fascinates me that if you take your car in for MoT with a spacesaver fitted it will fail. This, to me, implies that they are not safe. Limiting the speed to 50mph is fine but it's down to the driver - it would be better if the speed were regulated by the engine electronins when a spacesaver was fitted.
A spare ( spacesaver or not ) is much better than that puncture repair foam.
Tyre will probably be scrap after using the foam !.

Tony tyre repair foam is another emergency only device. As with a spacesaver only to be used to get to the nearest service area. The tyre will be scrapped after foam has been used.
We have foam in my Zafira, but as it is a motability car we are told never to use it but to call out a mobile tyre repair service which is free on motability cars.

bhg as well as the speed limit there is a mileage limit/ time limit on using spacesaver spares.
I know someone who was stopped by the police with one on the car and told they would be 'flagged up' on the police data base to be stopped and checked a few days later to make sure they were not still using it!

tony they don't put a proper spare on for 2 reasons, one it saves weight which helps with the fuel economy, two cost ,it is cheaper, a full spare is now an 'upgrade at extra cost' . I have seen prices of £300 and over for some full spares.
bhg481 Yes I agree there is no mileage limit printed on a spacesaver spare.
But my mate really was stopped and told that he would be checked again to make sure he was not still using the spacesaver. The copper told him you are only allowed to use one to drive home or to the nearest repair centre, garage or workshop. Of course the nearest garage could be 50 miles away or more. A spacesaver spare sticks out like a sore thumb, the wheel is normally painted bright yellow! so you can see why they pulled him over.

Thanks all, Eddie i have been advised 16'' spare is fine as long as it is only used to get you to a garage as the deeper profile tyre on the 16 will make it nearly 18'' - does that make sense?
i have ordered a full size 16'' steel rim tyre and rim and hoping it is going to fit in the hole in the boot.

See my post @ 20:13. If this is the official spare offered by Vauxhall it should fit your wheel well in the boot. You should not drive at more than 50 mph with this wheel fitted but it can be used to complete your journey and then get the damaged tyre repaired or replaced. I assume for that price you will also get a kit to allow a wheel change (jack, brace etc.)

I think the orange spacesaver tyre has fallen out of favour to be replaced by the sort of spare discussed above which are much more sensible in that they are a proper wheel that can be used for the life of the car, for as long as needed for each event. They cost about £70 to £100 if offered as an option on a new car.
