Drivers Too Close To Cyclists
Although this might be a good idea in the interests of increased road safety – surely it must work both ways with police warning cyclists who under-take a slow moving line of vehicles, where the gap between the cars and pavement is less than 2.25m.

I always give cyclists a wide berth when overtaking them because it only needs one to wobble and he/she has taken up another yard/metre of the roadway. What I dislike are cyclists who come down the inside of traffic, especially on sections of roadway which divide from two lanes into three at traffic lights and the motorist has to pull-in closer to the inside.
Anyway, my biggest bother is Motor cyclists who come down between two lanes of traffic. If I had a very small car and saw that there was room for me to travel between the two lines of traffic, I reckon that I would end up in Court for a motoring offence.
Incidentally, going back to pedal cyclists, have you come across one riding along a roadway whist using a Mobile phone ?. I have witnessed such, which is Not one bit illegal.
Hans.

"I'm in Detroit at the moment, baldric. I assume that same rules apply worldwide regarding parking/driving on a one lane road"
What an odd assumptiion to make. What works in the land of the free and the home of the entitled isn't always adopted by normal people.
It should be noted that 100% of car drivers managed to see and avoid the parked car making one wonder if the lycra-clad eco warrior was in some way impaired. Maybe more water should be taken with it.

Having ridden push bikes and motorbikes and driven cars and lorries through London for years, as well as overseas, I think it is of huge benefit for any driver to have ridden a biike.
Yes, there are irresponsible and foolish riders but the same can be said for drivers, so my driving philosophy, having retired from biking, is to treat every road user as being totally unpredictable.
Riders are extremely vulnerable, and exposed to depressed drains and other road faults which drivers don't notice so I give them a wide margin of safety.
We all think we are good drivers and to be called a bad driver is akin to being called a racist or paedophile . I don't claim to be a good driver, bit I think I am an improving driver, even with over 50 years on the road.
So if you are a driver give cyclists as much clearance as possible, and if you are a cyclist treat all drivers as half blind, cocooned, unthinking morons. Your life depends on it.
Cheers.
