peugeot battery warning

ive posted here before but something else has developed, the warning light for the bttery is like pulsing on and off and now when it was being driven the whole electrics died and the engine cut out. the bettery is now dead so im thinking its the alternator. or is it a broken earth lead? the model is a peugeot 405 tdi so any information would be appriciated.

It's either of the two things you mentioned but probably not the earth lead.

Take it to an auto electrician, they will tell you in seconds what it is.
