Speed Detectors

Can anyone recommend a detector, or suggest what to look for when considering buying one.

It seems prices range from �99 (ad in BBC TG mag) to �400+, so what is the difference?

Before anyone pipes up, I do not speed, have been driving for 30 years with no points, and do not condone speeding. But these days, it would be so easy to collect points from a short lapse of concentration, or in an unfamiliar area (ask my wife) and I don't want to get caught!

Surely there is one in your car. Look for a dial with a pointer just behind the sterring wheel.

If you are having lapses of concentration behind the wheel, should you really be driving?

And in an unfamiliar area you should be even more aware.

When you see the tell tale double flash, wrap a very heavy chain around it and lasso the next passing police car with the other end. Bloody things!! they keep catching me no matter how fast I drive.
Ive always wanted to put a large ramp behind the camera so I can get a piccie of me in mid air, could they still prosecute me for flying over the speed limit?

I can't help you, pompei, but do sympathise with you over the answers you (don't) get. It seems thats the way that AB is going these days - either sarcastic or patronising, and no help at all (bit like my reply, I suppose!)

Pompei - Did you mean to write 'Speed Camera Detectors'? I get the impression that's what you meant.

Unfortunately I can't assist you, but if you confirm this is what you meant, I'm sure you'll get replies from ABers much more knowledgable than me.

Hi pompei, I totally agree with what you are saying ! I got a GSP 'safety' camera detector about six months ago and I can't fault it. Check out www.talex.co.uk I got the 'lite' version which is fine and it is now well under �100. The unit warns when you exceed the prescribed limit so you don't need to spend time gazing at the dial with the pointy needle and can concentrate on making brisk, safe progress along our congested highways.
