Failed MOT

My MOT runs out at the end of this month but I took the car in early and it failed. Does this mean I cant drive it on the road as the failed test is the most current? Thanks

You will still have your mot certificate until the end of the month, so you are allowed to drive the car.

You'd be foolish to, but you won't be prosecuted.

I'm trying to decide if I should get a new car now or fix this to give myself more time.

You can still drive on the current MOT (as Ethel says). As to whether to fix it depends what it failed on. ie knackered wipers or rakes of welding!

you still have a valid mot so you cannot be prosecuted for not having one.
however, you still can be prosecuted for driving knowingly an unroadworthy vehicle.

It has corrosion in a few places. I dont think that makes it unroadworthy in my opinion but what do I know!

if it failed a MOT test... its unroadworthy,..
your results from your mot are logged on a central database

I know that and thats why I asked the question of whether I can still drive it over the next few days.

well although it is illegal. its one of those laws that you will probably never get done for. As you are legal to drive you car at its current status Too and from a testing station (to which its hard to prove that you are not dropping your car off at a station).

however if you happen to be involved in an accident - you can be procecuted... Strange as it is, not for the above offence( as long as you say you are dropping car off etc) but for no insurance

so the risk is up to you.

It is still possible to arrive at some MOT testing stations unannounced and have an MOT while-u-wait, a service which they advertise, but that is beside the point.

It is also not relevant that you can legally drive a vehicle with no MOT to, or from, a pre-arranged MOT test since the previously issued certificate is still valid.

You fulfil the legal requirement in possessing a valid MOT certificate however it is still an offence to drive a vehicle which is not roadworthy on the public highway.

may i also add that an MOT is only valid at time of test!! It is us (the owner) of our vehicle to maintain the vehicle's roadworthyness thereafter
