Ford Fiesta radio problems

I have a T reg ford fiesta and the radio has frozen. The display is on but there is no sound and none of the buttons are working, I can't change the radio station or play a tape. The strangest thing about it though is that when I turn the ignition off, the radio display stays on when usually it goes off. Does anyone have any idea of how to fix this. Is there a reset I don't know about. Thanks.

Hi Feebal

I notice here that on the 15th July last that you posted a question about trouble that you were having with your Fiesta car radio. You spoke of how the display was frozen with the backlight on, despite the ignition being turned off.

I am experiencing the same problem now. Can you recall how you got yourself out of this problem?

If you had to take it to a Ford garage, how did they fix it?

Hi Smartbadge.

I fixed the radio problem by removing the fuse and then sticking it back in again (well someone else did! - not Ford though, just a mate). It came back instantly.

However, about a couple of weeks ago it broke again only this time it just wouldn't come on. This just suddenly righted itself on sunday. Came on out of the blue!

I think I may have a problem with my fuses. Hope you get yours sorted, driving without a radio is v quiet!
Hi Feebal,

Thank you for your reply on this issue. Yesterday evening I took out the relevant fuse, but the radio didn't budge from its frozen state.

I took the car to the garage, the mechanic took out the unit and suggested that I take it to an AV repair shop. I reckon that they will be able to sort it out.

A friend told me today that given the proximity of radio to the heating / ventilation unit, the solder joints on the radio's PCB boards are subject to a lot heating and cooling, on top of the normal operation of the radio and tape machine itself. It seems a resonable theory....

I know what you mean about driving without any background music / chatter!!

Cheers for you interest on this,
