On my way home last night.. a woman was driving along in the middle lane.. overtaking nothing...

I drove up behind her in the middle lane.... and flashed at her to 'KINDLY PULL OVER cos you are in the overtaking lane and overtaking nuffin'....

She looked in her mirror at me.. waved her arms about - and stayed put!!!

WHAT ON EARTH did she mean by waving her arms at me eh???

She really obviously thought she was perfectly right to be in that lane!!!

Dont you sometimes wish you were an unmarked cop car!!!!

Ok...it's the lane that slower vehicles use.
I am an advanced motorist and motorcyclist, I've done lots of courses one with the police, this guy in fact: http://www.amazon.co....-Jones/dp/0714038113. Look closer to home for the idiot. Listen panic I understand how shocking it can be when you find out you are wrong but no need for a tantrum eh?
you've had training from 404 not fond??
Well done Geezer....
Geezer - you've misinterpreted.

You can overtake on the inside if there is a queue of traffic in the middle lane and your is moving slower HC242

That is not the same thing as moving to the inside lane in order to overtake

NACPO and the CPS have an agreement that overtaking on the inside is grounds for a charge of careless driving
Jake...geezer is right and everyone else is wrong.
This actually happenned to me on my motocycle test, I was on the left of a dual carraige way and a truck turned right into it at a junction and was therefore picking up speed in the right hand lane. I was reticent to overtake on the left because in those days i didn't know what I know now. The examiner who was behind told me to go past on the left. He later explained that you can overtake on the left if you do not alter speed or change lanes, ie you just drift past at your current speed that counts as slower moving traffic on the right. Overtaking implied change of speed and lane to get past that is the difference.
We all know that Geezer.
When did this become about if you can pass traffic on the left?

This was a question about should you drive in the middle lane when the left hand lane is clear, to which the answer is no you shouldn't.
That is different to overtaking on the Motorway, do you not know the difference ? You should not overtake on the inside lane like you have stated.
It's relevant because one of the objections to middle lane usage is that someone on the left would have to go long way round, that is not the case. Remember I am talking about going at least 70, dawlders should get over, I agree with that. Most accidents on motorways are caused by people changing lanes, weaving in and out of trucks on the left because they think that is what you should do.
On a four lane stretch of M40 I often see motorists staying put in the third lane and doing 60-65 mph. The inner two lanes are empty apart from the odd p1ssed off motorist who overtakes on one of the inside lanes. Behind the lane hogger is a build-up of traffic trying to find a gap in the fourth lane to overtake.
So just to clarify her R1?

You are saying that it is safer to stay in the middle lane than it is to move back into the left lane when it's clear?
You do not sound like an advanced motorist R1Geezer. Although credit where credit is due ...........you do sound like you would make an excellent road rager.
There is not a single Advanced Motoring course that advocates driving outside of the law, so where does "at least 70" fit into that ethos. I also wonder how many others claiming to be advanced motorists/riders have had a licence endorsed with 6 points for 122mph in a 60mph zone as R1Geezer has previously admitted.

The courses also teach that safety is paramount and as such you should never position yourself as to be a hazard to other road users. People can claim all manner of titles but any driver who does not return to an empty first lane when no hazard lies ahead and then claims "advanced motorist" within earshot of an IAM member will be correctly deemed a fantasist.
Can somebody anybody tell me where in this country you are allowed to go "over 70"

Overtaking on the inside anywhere, with the exception of a one way street, can lead to a charge of dangerous dring, a £60 fine and 3 points antone who says different is wrong.
yes I have trangressed in the past, my licence is clean now. Yes yes the law says 70 but most would accept that is a bit pedestrian, you can go 85 and not get prosecuted generally. Yes all the holier than thou's will spout the bleeding obvious but you have to use a bit of common. Try doing 70 on a motorway and you'll get overtaken by everyone, in fact you'll be more of a danger than someone doing 130!
so why were you in the middle lane?
if there is nothing in the left lane, you should have just stayed there...why did you go into the middle and expect her to move?
you did not need to over take her as she wasnt in your way in the left lane....

you clearly just did this to the woman to be awkward and create a reaction...and i dont blame her for just staying put just to annoy you...i would have done the same.
