how long have you got after the red brake fluid light shows before you need to refill your car?

That's difficult to answer because it will vary from car to car and also vary depending on why the fluid level is low.

If you've got a leak in the system it could cause a failure very rapidly but the chances are you'll have a certain safety margin.

Check the level of fluid in the reservoir - is it just at the min level or well below it?

Best to do fairly promptly - you can often pick up a small bottle of brake fluid at garages - it's not hard - trust yourself
A long time ...
Usually gets a bit low and puts light on when pads get quite worn. The level will come up again when new pads fitted. Check for leaks tho .. especially rear wheel cylinders (if used)

Your brakes could fail anytime depending on why the light is coming on but don't refill your car, just the brake fluid reservoir
Red means danger.

I wouldn't drive the car until the reason was diagnosed.
