I am thinking of buying an 04 Astra 1.4 , 16v Life 60,000 mileage. Does anyone know the recommended cambelt change times on this model, and how much it is likely to cost if its coming up for one.

every 5 years or 75'000 miles (which ever comes first) so it should have been last year.

and about £300 - £400

£3-400? Get real! Where are you getting them done? £250-280 at a main dealer, around £175 at an independent. Had cambelt changed on a 2.5L V6 Omega for £200!
Hi Iseagulls

this year saw the Astra g & Astra h.
the H has timing belt & the G has timing chains
recommended change is 60,000 miles or 6 years whichever comes first
tensioner pulley should also be changed.

Hiya, No idea about cost (£350-ish?) but it's essential to get the cam belt changed or it could cost you a completely broken engine. Usually cam belts are about 5 years I think? Unless anyone knows better?
My 53 reg 1.6 16v Astra was due at 60,000 or six years.

Whichever answer you follow, it is due now.
