Why Joggerjayne? He could have killed someone if not himself. That costs the state a huge amount of money - you! In 1986 I was clocked and eventually stopped doing 97.8 in a 60mph zone. I was told I was going to be banned and had to appear in court to give good reason why I shouldn't be. I wrote a letter pleading guilty then stood in court in front of three old ladies on the bench who listened to my grovelling. They then peered over their glasses, tut tutted at me - then told me I was "a very naughty boy!" (I was 24). I got three points and £150 fine, but I kept my licence.

What taught me my lesson though was the policeman who wrote the ticket. He'd stopped me three months earlier for doing 55 in a 40 limit. He said nothing to me other than telling me my name and address which he remembered. He then tore off the ticket - but wouldn't let go when I went to take it. He then looked straight at me and just said "If you drive like a prat sir, you'll be treated like one". Then he got in his car and drove off. I decided at that point to stick to every road rule I could and I have to this day.

When I read posts like this I just remember that policeman "If you drive like a prat sir, you'll be treated like one". Hopefully, BMW-rider learns the same lesson I did.

But you seem to think he should be given a break Jogger. Why? I was trying to illustrate why he shouldn't be. I'm sure you are quick to complain about the cost of Council Tax, road tax, insurance etc. Every death or serious injury on the road costs the taxpayer a six-figure sum in investigations, court cases and follow-up health care. If someone is being a prat, then they should be treated as such. I was and expected to be.
