caught doing 102 mph on the A9 in a 60 mph zone

The A9 is the main route to the Norh of SCotland, it passes through some beautiful scenery - has parts where they have snow gates fitted as it can at times become impassable with landing or drifting snow - it switches from dual to single carraigeway many times and is filled with trucks, caravans etc. You can quite easily be stuck in a queue of traffic for 30 miles with no safe place to pass.

Having said all that, the A9 is not a dangerous road, it's just a road - it's the drivers that can be dangerous.

People speed, take no note of the altitute or weather conditions, they become frustrated being stuck behind a lorry for 30 mins with no way to pass - when you get to a stretch of dual carriageway, which may only last a few miles, people go mental trying to overtake as many vehicles as possible. I have seen so many near misses on this road it is unbelievable. I have seen caravans by the side of the road that look like firewood, There have been lots of people tragically killed usually becasue some idiot hasn't realised that the road is now single carriageway or are simply driving too fast, to do what, get to your destination 15 minutes earlier? It is generally always some innocent person that gets killed while the idiot lives to fight another day.

Annie - I used to drive along the A9 when I was going to Inverness from Perth. When I was stuck in a line of traffic I just settled back and enjoyed that fabulous scenery of mountains and glacial debris. It was especially beautiful on a sunny day.

Andy, I have family in Aviemore and Inverness so know the road reasonably well - Realistically, the difference between getting a pretty clear run up and a conjested run up is about 20 minutes - is that worth risking your life for?

As you say, best think to do is to chill get yourself off the road for a few minutes and wait for the line to clear.

As for the OP - what might happen is that by losing your licence that may save someones life - maybe even yours!

I've Googled the A9, and it seems to be a known danger spot.

Is the main criticism of BR that he was doing 102 ?

... or that he was doing it on the A9 ?
