I`m just listening to Killing Me Softly (on the radio) by Roberta Flack. Why is that song so depressing? It doesn`t bring back any bad memories, it`s just depressing. Likewise, anything by The Carpenters, I Can`t Live by Harry Nilsson, and Gypsies Tramps and Thieves by Cher.

Try a Leonard Cohen selection!

Oh God, not Honey, I could never listen to that without bawling. I do remember Freddie Starr doing his own rendition that lightened it a bit.
Brian and Michael: Matchstalk Men And Matchstalk Cats And Dogs.

Utterly soul destroying, twee, folksy pap about made up "art"
And this

I liked Baker Street but it could be the saxophone that makes it depressing.
There certainly were 237SJ - Honey gives me the creeps I have to switch it off when it comes on - the other is Twinkle - Terry
Snap - there is ESP going on
Can there be a moredepresing song than this? It even got to number 2 - I think.

Leonard Cohen was my first thought when I saw the heading in Latest Posts. Loved to listen to him many years ago (around about the time Crime and Punishment was my favourite reading!), but couldn't do so now. Killing Me Softly is still one of my favourite tracks though.
Hold on to your stomachs.

Oh gosh, I forgot about Gilbert O Sullivan. Everything by him was depressing!
Tony Blackburn used to play Honey all the time on his show after his wife left him and comment live on air how much he missed her
Didn't some one do a spoof version of Deck of cards - was it Billy Connolly
Gilbert O'Sullivan had that hit with a song about being jilted at the altar, about his mother and father dying, about committing suicide then being all alone. Hit making stuff!

Elvis - I remember Tony Blackburn talking about his wife. Tessa Wyatt wasn`t it?
Whatever happened to Twinkle?

Does anyone remember Dolly Parton begging Jolene to "Please don`t take my man"? That song was in the charts in the hot summer of 1976 though, so not depressing.
The B side of Union Gapp's (as it was spelt I think) "Young Girl, "I'm losing you". Does anyone recollect this, or the lyrics?.
Also, not only Nilsson's "Without You", but one called "Without him/her" covered by Lulu and Kenny Everett (separately).
I still like Leonard Cohen and he has such a twinkle.

What about 'Leader of the Pack' by the Shangri Las?
To queue or not to cue that is the question!

Ebony Eyes by the Everly Brothers gets to me every time, especially the spoken bit.
