I`m just listening to Killing Me Softly (on the radio) by Roberta Flack. Why is that song so depressing? It doesn`t bring back any bad memories, it`s just depressing. Likewise, anything by The Carpenters, I Can`t Live by Harry Nilsson, and Gypsies Tramps and Thieves by Cher.

Mazie - do you remember the video to Nikita? I think it was during the cold war and Nikita was a Soviet girl with very blue eyes (that`s how I remember the video)

I`ve just thought of another one. Vienna by Ultravox. Depressing or what?
Yes, I do SJ... but apparently Nikita was a man, a border guard that Elton had a crush on....So that blows that Video right out of the water ;o)
Rainy Night In Georgia by Randy Crawford is a bit depressing but I love it.
Vienna...whenever I hear that I always think about Rigsby's cat
Love it too Rocky.... So many good songs that make us sad hey?
Some of them are the best.
I do like this song but it is depressing.

I had a rainy night in Georgia. Got lost on my way back to Orlando. What an experience! It was 4 in the morning when we got back.

Rainy night in Georgia reminds me of kissing my first love in the car park of the pub I used to work in. I saw Randy Crawford in concert several years ago and she sang that song. She was brilliant. Mind you, the song One Day I Will Fly Away is quite sad as well.
Have we always thought of these songs as depressing -or have our tastes changed?
When i first discovered music I loved Elvis and listened to all his old stuff. This was regarded as a depressing dirge but his voice was so strong I loved it

Anything by Jim Reeves. I was brought up on his music. All he sings about is girls he has loved and lost.
I hate 10 c c's I'm not in love. Such a dreary tune.
Lucky you 237, I'd love to see Randy, she brings back lots of great memories for me.
And another

Gosh, cupid - that is one of my all time favourites. Probably because it reminds me of the fantastic summer we had when that song was in the charts and I was young and dreamy!
Jeza, my dad used to play Jim bloody Reeves all the time, that and Paper Lace's The Night Chicago Died and Billy Don't Be A Hero, jeez they could make you suicidal.
Question Author
My dad used to play Nat King Cole. I used to take the mick out of him as I was into T Rex at the time but now I`m older and my Dad is long gone, I realise what flippin good taste he had.
