I`m just listening to Killing Me Softly (on the radio) by Roberta Flack. Why is that song so depressing? It doesn`t bring back any bad memories, it`s just depressing. Likewise, anything by The Carpenters, I Can`t Live by Harry Nilsson, and Gypsies Tramps and Thieves by Cher.

Gypsies Tramps and Thieves by Cher. Really (I understand if you don't want to mention why, SJ)? I think it's a happy tune.

Music to you-know-what to.....

i think that song is one of the most beautiful ever written, not depressing at all,
Try a Leonard Cohen selection!
I've always found this piece depressing.

When Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves came out, I was too young to understand that it was about prostitution (at least I think it was, anyway).

The Coronation Street theme music was depressing to me because it was my queue to go to bed. If I survived Coronation Street, I was up for a late night -

Em - I can see your point with the Elvis song!
Leonard Cohen?

I loved Gypsies Tramps and Thieves- it's probably the first time I really noticed pop music.

Anything by The Smiths

I`ve got a friend who loved Leonard Cohen (when the rest of us were into Bob Marley, Roxy Music and Duran Duran). She still loves him.
As I do 237SJ, thank you Factor

I think the Smiths played on the depressing sound. Apparently, they were only going for a few years. They did make quite a bit impact in that time though.
Bobby Goldsboro - Honey ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

granny - I was just googling that song as you posted. I remember that. There were quite a few songs that were released in the early 70s that were depressing (but deep and meaningful, probably).
Elvis, I was about to type 'anything by the smiths' but realised you had already posted'anything by the smiths' so I decided against posting 'anything by the smiths' because that would be the most depressing thing since anything by the smiths!
Just getting that
