Such is this man's reputation.

Wow! As a run of the mill 'plonker' (so to speak), I'm impressed!

Just to illustrate that Jack Broadbent can play an acoustic in the conventional way besides making it sound like an electric slide guitar.

Talbot - //You can read as many books about guitars as you like ... but the only way to learn how to play it is to pick it up and TRY //

I am not sure why you are stating the obvious here.

My point has always been that you do not need to play an instrument in order to understand the people who do play it, and know a considerable amount about how it is played, or to have a knowledge about its intricacies, the music composed on it, and so on and so forth.

I don't play guitar, but I do know conservable amounts about the guitar, and how to talk intelligently to guitarists, and that is why I write about guitars and guitarists, among other instruments.

Similarly as I have said, Naomi does not need to be a Muslim to know about Islam.

But if Naomi is allowed to speak with knowledge about her subject, then so am I.

I hope that clears up any misunderstanding.
Naomi - // ... and I don't remind anyone of my 'vast education' on the subject of Islam. //

on AOG's weekend thread, no deleted, you stated that you have spent many years reading various tomes about Islam, so it appears that you do need to remind people.

Come on, don't be modest - I'm not. I am seriously proud of my knowledge and expertise, and it even stands up in the face of your constant attempts to belittle it.
Excellent - such talent out there, thanks for sharing.

Deleted by who I wonder?
You can't use that thread as evidence can you it has gone.
There would be no point me mentioning your un-samaritan like post to nailit on that thread because it would be meaningless without the evidence.

I have no idea - since I was participating, the rules prevent it from being me, but I am happy to clarify that because I know you would love it to have been me - but no.

// You can't use that thread as evidence can you it has gone. //

If this was a court of law, then no I couldn't but despite the attitude of some who like to behave like this is a trial - it's not, so I can use it if I wish.

What has being 'unSamaritan'-like got to do with anything - much less the thread wee are on now?

Don't bother - you are trying to pick a fight and going off-topic again ...

andy-hughes, the thread where you tried to give the impression that you’d read the Koran? I didn’t say I “have spent many years reading various tomes about Islam”. As for your expertise, sorry but having read your contradictory posts for a long time now, in my opinion it doesn’t stand up.
No need to be sorry .... oh, OK, then you can if you like.
Question Author
andy-hughes, just being polite. ;o)
I'd seen this clip before, but well worth another look, brilliant :-)
Estas has quite a discography and well worth listening to more - he reminds me in many ways of my Nephew who is an excellent guitarist and now spends a lot oh his time tutoring the children of the well to do in The Hamptons, Long Island.

Some just seem to have the knack to be at one with their instrument and music.
Naomi - // I didn’t say I “have spent many years reading various tomes about Islam”. //

No, you didn't. what you did say was -

"That could be because during these discussions I post information that I've gleaned from years of reading Islamic literature and history ... "

I think most agree that the gist of what I said was therefore correct.
andy, you introduced the deleted thread

I responded to it.
Mamya - //Some just seem to have the knack to be at one with their instrument and music. //

That is true, and something I find endlessly fascinating.

I marvel at some musicians who not only master their instrument, but use it to create such wonders of composition that entertain the world.

Copied that before you deleted it?
Question Author
andy-hughes, did you also save the question I was responding to?
Being on this thread reminds me of this track. John Mayer one of my faves. He can play as well.

It's a gift for sure and though I can read music to a point and write poetry, putting the two together or getting a decent sound from an instrument in not something I manage well.
Chill.

Talbot - //Copied that before you deleted it? //

I refer you to my post of 13:20 which you appear not to have read.

I did not delete the thread. I know you wish I did, but I can't help you.
