Funny. You men are all claiming to have based your opinions on her in an unbiased way but you all use the word "woman". Maybe she doesn`t fit your stereotype of a woman (young, pretty, high heels, good figure etc). I rest my case!

As far as the coal industry is concerned she probably did miners the best favour of all by closing down what must be just about the most dangerous and unpleasant occupation imaginable.

i saw hard working people on their knees cus of that thing....and dont believe what the Thatcher press told about the unions etc....but in the end even her own party saw what she was and turned their backs on her

chrissa, true!.....but think about how much the government have paid out over the years to miners out of work since the mines closed!.......they had no other skills!......the closure of the pits killed the south wales valleys!.......they still suffer today!..........

the ones that worked in the pit near my old works all agreed working down the pit was better than working with the chemicals that we used.

Not strictly true chrissa, while many of the older pits were losing money as many were producing coal profitably. There was a standard closing procedure and though men objected they all knew it was going to happen eventually. It was the wholesale closure of profitable pits they objected to. My own colliery was not only one of the most profitable mines in the country but it also had at least 30 years of proven workable reserves

According to himself, she gets a state funeral as an ex-Prime minister. With regards to the pits, the miners where I lived bought out the pit whe they worked, sadly this closed in the last couple of years (Tower Colliery).

I think she introduced the me me me society from which we have never recovered .
I remember her reign well .People in negative equity losing their homes and jobs while the fat cats in the city were lighting their fat cigars with ten pound notes .
It was all jobs for the boys and having tea with despots like Pinochet .

I remember when I went to a music festival and the lead singer of a band asked if the Queen Mother was dead yet. That bombed with the audience because they could see what a crass and insensitive question that was. I think I`m suffering from deja vu.
