Eddie;// But aerial photographs clearly showed it was far smaller than the crowd at Obama's inauguration.//
I'm not really interested in how many attended, but tonight, the BBC (and maybe other channels) showed pictures purporting to show expanses of empty spaces during the inauguration which were in fact images taken after the event and people had left the assembly.
Talbot, did you not see the news item when Saddam 's spokesman was telling us there was no invasion while behind his head the tanks were driving up the road towards him? It was all over the news at the time and many jokes were made about it.
I'm at work and only have the phone, so no chance of me giving you a link as to what actually transpired.
The tanks were actually on the other side of a river and not right behind comical Ali.
You could of course google it yourself. No apology needed when yo do btw.
They were crossing the bridge over the river and driving up the road towards the studio he was broadcasting from . He was in front of a window and you could clearly see the tanks coming up the road behind him through the window. The broadcast stopped abruptly a few minutes later when the tanks reached the studio and broke down the entrance to the studio so that the US troops could get in to arrest him. He was put on trial for war crimes, sentenced to death but later had his sentence reduced to 15 years in jail!
When Mr Sahhaf finally accepted that all was lost, he left even his bodyguards behind. Barely three hours later, American troops swarmed down the street.
Yes I found that and read it several times , but just before the end he was still broadcasting saying there is no invasion as the tanks rolled across the bridge towards the TV station.
As I said he was in front of a window and the tanks could clearly be seen coming over the bridge towards the studio. If you play the video to it's end you hear the sound of the entrance being smashed in and the gunfire as the US marines storm the TV studio.
