I wasnt "fearful" but knew that if I played up there would be a punishment of some sort or other and worst case my parents would have been involved, then the SCHIt would really hit the fan.

Its very simple,my parents offered me incentives. if I behaved and did well in school i got rewards/incentives whether it be a small present, a book i might want ( most kids probably dont even know what a book is for these days !) or a trip out somewhere, if i didnt do well because i was misbehaving then the threat was withdrawal of those incentives.
