You could argue that there's a precedent (Churchill), who led the country to victory in a 20th century war.

British Coal sold off all their houses in the mid 70's at a nominal 50% market value to tenents and round here at least most tenants took the offer up. I paid £2,500 for my first house, It was re-sold last friend for £120K
