You could argue that there's a precedent (Churchill), who led the country to victory in a 20th century war.

Two opposing stories, and their responses from the Daily Mail, show that there might be some division in the way her demise may be percieved:

so for me to think it is wrong for the council to be forced to sell off its houses is sour grapes

Dr Filth take a trip up here there are streets of empty council hoses(and I am not exaggerating) that the local labour council are allowing to stand empty and fall to bits rather than spend money doing them up
Myskavik my old man went on the council housing list when he came out of the raf at the end of the second world war.
he is now pushing daisies up in droylsden cemetry and i think he must be still on the list somewhere .
Yes, but they are in Sunderland (joke) :)
alexanderd are there any jobs in the area.

Sorry about your dad obviously but you surely cant blame Thatcher for something that long ago, that is stretching it a bit far
The funniest thing was that the vast majority of people who bought their council houses were labour voters.................and no-one made them buy them.
i still have a letter from manchester city council housing department from 46 or 47 with his code number on
next time i dig out i may ask manchester city council s he getting anywhere near the top of the list :)
only know of one person who bought their council house and he was a labour voter. i fact he was a shop steward where i used to work.
thats called inflation - nothing to do with maggie...
In the BBC's vote on the 100 Greatest Britons a few years ago, Margaret Thatcher was the highest ranked living person.

So the assertion that "...most dislike her intensely" is patently wrong.
The Labour council in Salford ran a scheme to renovate several streets of terraced houses. They compulsorily purchased them, and got an architect to do a virtual rebuild,(living rooms upstairs, even!)
The they sold them off at prices massively out of the reach of the original owners.
If a Tory council had done that, just imagine the headlines!
i remember the two brothers getting kicked out
So what did the councils do with the money from council house sales and the savings on maintainance budgets - did they build replacement housing stock - did they ****!
