You could argue that there's a precedent (Churchill), who led the country to victory in a 20th century war.

Two opposing stories, and their responses from the Daily Mail, show that there might be some division in the way her demise may be percieved:

"she is hated and abhorred by most people"
You'll be hard put to justify that sweeping statement.
state funeral=bank holiday im all for a state funeral then..at least she will have,at last, done something for the british workers..even if it is in death..mind you she would have probaly had it written in her will that she wouldnt want a state funeral if the british workers would benefit...
lol, stokey
joko et al - talk about one person polarising opinion so much!

You state "she is hated and abhorred by most people", but that is simply not the case - for every Maggie-hater I strongly suspect there will be an equal number of people who consider her to be our greatest post-WWII PM who, following a disastrous Labour Government, made some very difficult decisions in order to get a failing country back on it's feet.

If she really was "...hated and abhorred by most people" do you honestly think the Tories, under her, would have won three general elections?

ive never met a person who did like her... sure there must be some, and obviously at her time in office plenty did - but now, now i think most dislike her intensely
The answer to the question is NO, NO, NO!
Give her a traditional funeral, cut her head off, drive a stake through her heart and bury her at a crossroads at midnight to makes sure the evil bitch doesn't somehow crawl back

Flipflop; <If she really was "...hated and abhorred by most people" do you honestly think the Tories, under her, would have won three general elections?>
3 general elections, ay? So you must like T Blair quite a lot then, also.
I suppose it depends where you live Arti, but go into a pub in any of the old mining areas and mention maggie and you'll soon find what people think of her, but be carefull what you say as you might find yourself with a thick ear
The trade unions may have had there issues but where are we now. Once again back at square one with the wealthy elite holding the workers to ransom.
But I digress.
No she should not have a state funeral. Churchill earned his. She has not.
If there was I think many would turn up simply to make sure she was dead.
As Frankie Boyle said on Mock the Week,' Give the Scots shovels and they will dig their way to hell to hand her over personally.'
i once met a person who liked her but he was a bit odd
And I still say not one of the current lot (any party) is fit to hold a candle to her
you sound like my old mate are you a city fan
Dr Filth, nope I am from the industrial north-east and I still say she was better than anything we have got now, a load of upper-class twits
i am in the capital of the north west droylsden
Paddywak, I was quoting someone else's post, hence the < >
