So , Kate McCann ( on publication of her book ) is calling upon David Cameron , for the government to '' take some responsibility '' in finding their missing daughter .

Is her choice of words reasonable , in the circumstances ?

maybe on this post jth and doc should agree to disagree,
The trail may not necessarily have gone cold. The Portuguese Police files that the authorities over there seem so loathe to make available to the McCann's, may contain that vital piece of the puzzle.

Missing people have been found decades after they disappeared.

I standby what I said in my previous post: Madeleine has as much chance of being found as any missing person.
Ask any policeman - they will tell you it's easier to find someone who went missing a week ago than years ago.
Of course it is.
Which is why there appears to have been a dereliction of duty with the Portuguese Police who, at the start, steadfastly refused to look further than The English.

Often fresh eyes can solve a case.

The 'night stalker/rapist' was caught within a matter of 17 days once a new man took over the case.
Swings and roundabouts, Samak. More is being done to find this child. There has, and continues to be, an unprecedented level of media interest, globally, in the hunt for Madeleine. If any child who is currently missing is going to be found, it's Madeleine.

I compare your arguement to the one that many gave that the children must have been drugged because their parents are Doctors. Anyone with half a brain would realise that those with medical experience are the least likely to administer drugs to their children - let alone a fatal dose. People rarely stop and think things through.
May I just point out that there is not and never has been any proof of an abduction, but blood has been found there and in the McCanns rental care (by the British forensic dogs). We must remain open minded about all avenues of this case! But I do not feel that the poor child is alive.
*car*
Another reason why the government doesn't have to '' take some responsibility"
Also at the beginning Gordon Brown showed interest in helping them, then suddenly backed off, why?
and peter sutcliffe was overlooked despite cropping up several times in the police lists.......that guy from east anglia who killed his parents and siblings with the polce saying the daughter had done it and then turned the shotgun on herself .A member of the family then pointed out her arms were not long enough for her to pull the triger on herself........yes what an efficient police service we have and unlike the foreign ones....lol
I've mentioned before, it depends what your definition of 'responsibility' is, in this case.
Gordon Brown had more pressing matters on his mind at the time - like denying us a referendum.

The blood found in the hire car? Was it proven to be Madeleine's blood? No. The McCanns were not the first to hire that car. The childrens' clothes and footwear were put into the boot of that car when they moved out of the apartment. Had one of the children had a blistered foot and bled into the shoe, then minute amounts of blood could get onto the upholstery by cross contamination. Had Madeleine's dead, bleeding body ever been placed in the boot of that car, there would be a bit more blood than just a microscopic amount.
We have no idea what the Portugese police may have, or not found, Anything you may or nor4 belive is press speculation.

Anecdotal statements are just that, the fact that the press choose to print it as fact, should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Why is it wrong for the Police not to make information available? If they did and it costs a future court case, what would happen. What if those files point the finger at the McCanns, what would you say then?

I don't think the portugese can be called incompetent, its always the same when a Brit is involved in a crime abroad, if its nor solved the locals are incompetent, don't care, can't be bothered etc however when they do solve it they are just doing thier jobs.

Stand back a second you are called to an hotel room there is blood a missing child but two other children are fast asleep untouched. Try to think in isolation, what would you as a layman. never mind a trained policeman/woman, think?

I don't think it will cost millions just a couple of salaries, but I bet they can do ant better and never could.

They sent a "task force" to greece to look for Ben Needham, I don't know what happened to Maddy and I suspect we never will.
Ben Needham disappeared from an Island. If the Portuguese police were so competent, why didn't they instigate border checks before any abductor had the chance to cross the border into neighbouring Spain? Why didn't they accept help from the British Police?

Why were Kate's parents complaining from the very outset that the Portuguese police didn't seem to be doing anything?
If, at the end of a fully exhaustive and competent enquiry, the finger of suspicion points at the McCanns I shall at least be content that the truth has been discovered.
Dave - the blood in the apartment... was it fresh, wet blood? Or was it dried blood that could have come from anyone of the thousands of holidaymakers who'd previously occupied that same chalet?

Fresh, wet blood and they would have probably be hauled in for questioning long before the September of 2007.
Well said davethedog, and not forgetting at least 20people were trudging though the apartment before the police got there! A lot of water was muddied right from the start!
An independent and reliable witness saw a child wearing identical pjamas to those Madeleine had been wearing, being carried down the street. The child being carried down the street was fast asleep. The twins who were left in the apartment did not wake up when the police arrived. It's entirely feasible that all 3 children were chloroformed - by the abductor(s)!

If the (many) witness statements about people watching the apartment are to be believed, this was a carefully orchestrated abduction.

People should stop putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 36.
gordon brown had more pressing matters on his mind at the time...................what, dc hasnt ?
No mercy the blood , was Maddies , I have no idea.

The child being carried is anecdotal, there were a lot of people on holiday a lot of children.

I don't know, what happened. I don't know if the McCann's had anything to do with it or not. I don't think they did but I don't know.

All I am saying is the you have to try and be objective, because all we know or think we know comes via the media and often the reality of a situation, not just this one, is far different from that portrayed in the papers.
