The police may not be appearing to take a positive approach to the problem of these mobs on our streets, but should vigilante groups be allowed, brandishing their illegal weapons?
How long would the police tolerate bands of other vigilantes to stand guard outside their premises carrying shot guns or even air weapons?
In a ITV report it stated,
/// Deputy Assistant Commissioner Steve Kavanagh, from the Metropolitan Police, said they were not helping matters.///
/// He said: "What I don't need is these so-called vigilantes, who appeared to have been drinking too much and taking policing resources away from what they should have been doing - which is preventing the looting." ///

I worked in a Criminal solicitors'practice for some years. We had plenty of white British, Asian and Afro Caribbean clients. Hardly any Sikh or Chinese people ever came up before the courts, as their communities are strong and self policing.

// whilst another group marched through Enfield, in north London, aiming to stop any looters. //
Yes and what is your point, I do not have a crystal ball, how do I know what you and your troublesome friends are referring to?
I see no mention in my two links that state who this other group was.
No you and others just want to divert away from my point about vigilantes and weapons of swords and knives.
But it just will not wash, but drunken EDL members (how they knew who they were) running through the streets? Wow the crime of the century.

Vigilantes must never ever be allowed free reign on the streets.
They are often a more violkent version of people who run their local golf clubs and voluntary groups - it attracts all sorts of people for the wrong reasons.
For every one who would be restrained and use reasonable force, there will be twenty boneheads who love to use their over-developed sense of self-rightiousness to knocl seven bells out of anyone they perceive to have transgressed - and that simply leads to more retaliations.
A gand mentality is a gang mentality, and anyone who thinks it can be controlled because its avowed intentions are justifiable knows little of how crowd culture works.
Rioting and looting are shocking, but for the majority, they are a novelty, and like all novelties, the urge will quickly wear off.
I'm tipping that by the weekend, this will all be over.

You are now getting to sound ridiculous in your failed argument.
/// It becomes a lesser level playing field when said drunken edl thugs parade the streets chanting edl and duff up anyone who happens to be a darkie.///
1) You have no proof of this whatsoever.
2) Seeing the majority of Looters/Rioters are 'Darkies' (your description, not mine) don't you think that the Sikhs, would have also duffed up the darkies given half the chance?
/// i don't recall hearing of the sikhs attacking a bus, i guess thats just for cavemen who have perhaps never seen such a big angry red scarey thing before? ///
But we all recall hearing darkies attacking a bus, cars, buildings and persons given the chance, now don't we? After all it's been on the news.
Are you actually calling black people cavemen? now that is totally out of order, shame on you.

I know what the word means Ankou, and still find it inappropriate regarding the seriousness of the rioting going on at the moment,(and should not used as an excuse for the rioters). And no these riots are not new to me got caught up in one 20 years ago, never to be forgotten. And if these yobs think that what they are doing is a "novelty" God help the next generation.

Brenden - i always endevour to use an appropriate word or phrase to express myself, and i have done so here.
Yes there have ben riots before, but for the majority of the rioters involved at the moment, it is a new experience - to have been in a riot at seventeen twenty years ago, you would need to be thirty-seven now, and hopefully have grown out of such nonsense.
By no means to I trivialise the dreadful events of the last few days - i say again, my use of the word 'novelty' is deliberate, and appropriate.

<<Should these vigilantes be allowed?>>
Yes - though precisely speaking, they are not vigilantes anyway.
<<A vigilante is a private individual who legally or illegally punishes an alleged lawbreaker, or participates in a group which metes out extralegal punishment to an alleged lawbreaker>>
So far as we can see these people are not roaming the streets like Charles Bronson, they are standing guard aiming to prevent criminal behaviour.
The police are dealing with lawless, masked people running in the streets. I expect a disciplined group of respectable, law-abiding people standing out in the open, securing their property from attack is the least of their problems
