This gentleman has showed amazing courage and dignity

In the light of his son being killed in the Birmingham riots, no one can imagine what he is going through, he tried valiantly to resuscitate his boy without success, it is he that will be shown as a pillar of his community on the red tops and the broad sheets, not the scum that were responsible for the mindless thuggery , turning in on their own communities.

This man is behaving an a normal, civilised manner. Thinking before he speaks. He is, actually, a typical moslem in this regard. It's my experience however that most people behave like this in the face of personal tragedy - it is of great benefit to all though that he has chosen to voice his feelings publicly. That is the thing,

I honestly think calling for revenge would be understandable in the circumstances, and the dignity shown by this man is way above my expectations. As I said, I wouldn't consider anything to be normal because even the most extreme of reactions would be in some way understandable given the man had just lost his youngest son.
But hey, it doesn't really matter, this point is clearly subjective.

Understandable no doubt but, like I say, not normal - at least not in my experience, either personally or when considering similar incidents before, often in N. Ireland for example. I think in particular of the father of Michael McGoldrick slain by loyalists some years ago, who made a very similar statement. In fact, off the top of my head I can't think of a single instance of anyone in Britain or Ireland publicly calling for revenge. But as I said before, that doesn't make the sentiment anythin other than highly admirable, especially as one might, perhaps, think a contrary reaction to be more natural.
