You know where I live - Not nice to have to keep our front gate chained but loads has gone missing from around here this summer. The police have been round and spoken to me about it. We always felt so safe!

But the sheep are still here!! The sheep's owner is getting married in the local church this month! Not far to go. He rent's the field from the Estate and lives in one of the little cottages you pass on the way up to the barns you know so well. He works for the estate.

And his is the horse that is in the field behind!! There were two but one died this year.

I agree sandy. I am only quoting what they said on tv last night but it stated they bought the land for £10,000. If it had been bought with planning permission it would have cost them £2,000,000. It didn't have planning permission so they should be moved.

Helen, I understand what you are saying completely. However, if one group of people can flout the law and get away with it, then it will just cause tremendous problems in the future.

I shall put up some houses on my land without planning permission because a precedent has been set!!!! Yippeeee!!! I will be rich.

You don't have to turn them off their land. Just make a demolition order on all the illegally erected buildings and sited caravans. They can then live in tents and have a standpipe for water and use gas lamps. It is their land, so they can be on it, just not live on it!!

There is enough room for at least two houses, maximum four. No way can we get planning permission unless it's for holiday accommodation or rural industry.

No way did I say that makes me happy Helen. But it is a lesser problem that what would happen if we allowed their buildings to stay. In the long run that would be a far more expensive exercise.

Not very hard to work out, as already said.

It's called the 'black economy' (sorry to introduce colour into it) but the travellers are not the only one's at this game,we also have plenty of illegal inmigrants at it.

Come on AOG, let's not bring illegal immigrants into this thread!! There are also plenty of true Brits born and bred who dodge taxes, etc. including some very clever accountants and businessmen. Probably not money under mattresses, but still cleverly concealed in overseas banks, etc.
