What has it got to do with the likes of Vanessa Redgrave, would she like them bordering on her land?

everyone has to tow the line, council planning rules are pretty strict, and you usually have to jump through hoops to get anything done. When you read the various links it doesn't appear as though the council has been unreasonable in the longer term, so why has it dragged on for so long.
It seems we all share the same views about these so called travellers and their disregard for the laws and planning permissions we all have to abide by. I personally think that Redgrave woman is a twit and like some of you say, why doesn't she let them live on her land?? She'd probably have an answer ready as to why she couldn't! I agree net, I'm surprised they use toilet paper too!!
The councils give up enforcing anything if there is too much of a problem . The travellers know this and just string councils along for years. We have a piece of green belt land in our area that has been despoiled for over 30 years and the council just gave up and we stopped complaining as it was a waste of time.
I use to teach gypsy children and they and their parents were a pain in the butt. Take, take, take everything they can get and give nothing back.

I must admit there are many non travellers who do the same.
It's their home - leave them alone I say.
AP would you say the same if it was on your land, as so many people have found, because i know i wouldn't.
Em10 - On *my* land as in 'land owned by me', or on land 'not owned but inhabited by me' ? Either way the answer would be yes.
Would you like to play Rugby with our local lads AP. We have had the travellers camped on the local Footie/Rugby pitch, just in time for the young lads to play their games. The travellers have been forced off.... eventually, but there are piles of s**t all over the place, a dead dog, tyres, used nappies and sanitary towels. Hope you enjoy the game AP, Their home? I don't think so.
The young lads are devastated.
Well, I think travellers should travel otherwise how can they call themselves travellers. They ought to stay in each place they reach for only one night and then start travelling again.
Askyourgran - well said. We have had terrible trouble around here with dead dogs being left behind in bin bags, garden sheds, etc and one left hanging in the woods. I am not a prejudiced person by nature, but I am afraid I have witnessed so much filth and dirt left by them and know so many people they have thieved from. They have no regard for othe people whatsoever. They look after their own well!

They take, take, take and give nothing in return (as Modeller says)
I have absolutely no problem with them being evicted, except they will go somewhere else and cause problems.
When they are eventually evicted I fear bloodshed cos they certainly won't go quietly
I agree.
well if their defences are as good as their guttering and tarmac-ing it will be a peice of cake.
It seems to be the women folk who are doing all the shouting and getting the publicity. The menfolk don't like publicity or showing their faces. They could be recognised!!

I wouldn't fancy being confronted with those women!!!
I agree lofty, I think AP must be one of them if he thinks they are OK.
In do love their brick caravans...so ingenious, how do they move without wheels? presumably some kind of cushion craft. I also think that the idea of building a concrete wall around your caravan to stop it being nicked is brilliant.
-- answer removed --
AYG - as judgemental as ever, I never said they were "ok" - please dont make presumptions just because I was one of the few here to defend them.
why don't they just apply for planning permission for their caravans...if they don't get it, sell the land and move on...? simples?
Because it's not their land and as they don't want to 'settle' they're not going to stay in one place..
Answerprancer I am impressed that you did support the underdog!
Travellers are an ethnic minority -I do accept some of the comments ppl have wrote- however it's also important not to generalize or be prejudiced against any group of people
bbc news said they owned the land...?

"they don't want to settle" - they've been there for 10 years!!! lol

at the end of the day, you can't expect to have all the privileges that us council tax/income tax payers have...if you don't accept the fact you have to pay council tax/income tax...!!!
