What has it got to do with the likes of Vanessa Redgrave, would she like them bordering on her land?

Actually AP you'd wonder with the downturn of the economy, etc how much of a civilized society are we? Working on the chain gang!! Maybe we should take a leaf out of the "travellers" book and live off the land for free...lol
Ok I'm off to my caravan now for a bit of shut eye...
emu // However it is their home for the last 10 years and mediation rather than eviction might work... //
What planet are you living on ? What do you think the council have been doing for years ?
It is because years of mediation have failed that the council have finally decided they either give in or take positive action.
My council gave up years ago on a piece of Green belt land and as a result it is now a tip with rusting corrugated iron structures , old beds , baths etc. And this has gone on for 30 years. Now doubt you would plead for //MEDIATION //.
//if they want to live outside society's rules, they shouldn't expect society's advantages - but they do!!!//
Do they ? What makes you an authority on this ?

May I ask Answerprancer do you live near any traveller sites? Have you personally experienced the way they live or what effect they have on the rest of us?

I live in such an area and I can tell tell you the above statement made by Halifax is true.

I personally am not prejudiced about any particular race, creed or colour of people. What I am opposed to is any people that live outside the law, cause problems for the rest of us and don't even pay anything into our coffers.
And I agree with Modeller ^ There have been years and years of mediation. It hasn't worked. There is no other option than eviction otherwise everybody else will be flouting laws and the travellers will have set a precedent. Buildings will be erected all over the place without planning permission and it will be very difficult to do anything about it.
We haven't had any travellers beside us as I recall so it is difficult to make judgement on this situation but if we ever did have this dilemma, I wouldn't be happy seeing people not paying into our system and making a mess of the land they have illegally oocupied
Bobbi, We haven't any on our doorstep, but there are sites in the area. As you know I live very rurally. The travellers seem to be more of a problem now. Years ago they seemed far more reasonable, but every year the situation now is getting worse and worse. I have had a 'visit' lately from them, snooping round our garden and now keep the front field gates chained up when I leave the house. Several neighbours have had garden machinery and tools taken, including one brand new Woodburner which had been delivered and stolen in it's packaging on the day it was delivered.
And if you could see what mess they left (including dead dogs) in the local famous Shrine village near us, it would sicken you. The shopkeepers had to stay closed and barracade their shop fronts in that village during a pilgrimage.
I would be very annoyed at this LL and in such cases would be glad if they were removed, you shouldn't have to lock gates etc in such a rural area as yours
Well this one isn't so pure, she already had a 10yo son by someone else, and ys he is still alive although looks like he has the cares of the world on his shoulders. He can't live with her cos she has a council house and doesn't want to be evicted. btw they own several horses so how on earth they have a council flat is beyond me, she is also on benefits although greatnephew pays her nearly all his dosh! Oh don't get me started, I have to be very quiet when I am there!!!
just curious
where do they get their money from?
those lavish weddings can't be cheap
...................and she is at least 10 yrs older than the great nephew.
The locals around Dale Farm are in the same situation Bobbi. Even the ones t hat have settled and bought local properties cause problems. They are not friendly with the locals at all and don't try to be part of the community. My poor friend has them living next door to her and they make her feel quite threatened. She has tried to be friendly and welcoming - a lovely lady! Great shame.
Bobbi. Why do you think you rarely see the menfolk on the television - just the women. Do you think they declare anything they earn from working (tarmac etc!!) or from selling on stolen goods? All under the mattress money and loads of it too!!! The menfolk don't want to be recognised or caught!!

Most of them are richer than you or I will ever be!!
very sad that is LL, bet Ms Redgrave wouldn't like them in her back garden
Oh dear Neti!!
so basically, they are thieving scroungers LL?
which I would want 'moved on' without doubt
when people say moved on

nobody who has had to live near these people want them back so where will they move to next
Yep, but the trouble is they get moved on to somewhere else and create a problem for someone else. I really don't have any answers. A really difficult situation for the council.

Silly thing is they are even more disliked in Ireland than they are here.
My reply was to Bobbi, Dr Filth, but basically the same as yours.
Hi joy and LL.Hoe you are both very well.
You hit the nail on the head when you called them thieving. As has been said before in this thread, they have no respect for the law or anyone who is not of their type.
