In a time when more important matters should be on politicians minds, why is the term 'Marriage' that important to homosexuals, that politicians find the need to change the law, specially to accommodate them?

in the UK a gay couple can have a civil partnership. it sounds very legal, and not at all loving like a marriage (theoretically!)

Having a CP ties up all the 'practicalities' of a relationship; financial, pension and inheritance issues, 'next-of-kin' matters, rights in case of separation, children calamitous accidents and care thereafter.

I have never quite understood why gays and lesbians were only allowed a civil partnership in the first place! What was the point of not allowing them to have a marriage, like everyone else? Now they have to go though all the rigmarole of changing this! Ridiculous! Gay and lesbian couples should have exactly the same rights as heterosexual couples!
