In a time when more important matters should be on politicians minds, why is the term 'Marriage' that important to homosexuals, that politicians find the need to change the law, specially to accommodate them?

One should be allowed to voice their opinions on homosexuality just the same as on any other subject.

Where some homosexuals let themselves down is demanding almost that everyone should put up with them forever demanding this or demanding that, and forever thrusting their sexuality in front of us, 'Gay Pride' springs to mind.

Where some homosexuals let themselves down is demanding almost that everyone should put up with them forever demanding this or demanding that, and forever thrusting their sexuality in front of us, 'Gay Pride' springs to mind.
AOG - the reaction of some gay people - excess camp behaviour, radical requests, marches, and so on, is directly proportional, and in response, to the treatment they perceive as being dished out by the wider 'straight' society in which they co-exist.
As jack pointed out - if people were treated equally, the need to draw lines would be eradicated.

The difference being we have no special groups set up to protect our position, we do not march to show the world who we are, and anyone who disagrees with us are not labelled "narrow minded Bigots" etc, etc.

"Demanding" the right to be able to call a marriage a marriage doesn't strike me as particularly radical, personally.
And why should gay pride bother you? For a multitude of historical reasons, 'white' just isn't as strong an identity as 'gay' or whatever - there's virtually no sense of shared historical experience that just applies to whites and defines them as a community.
Think of it like this - an identity is what sets you apart from the crowd, so to speak. White heterosexual men, if you like, are 'the crowd'. And historically, until recent times (say, the last 30 years or so) have had all the associated advantages. What you will find, however, is that white men can and will identify themselves in several different ways (by age, formerly by social background, sometimes by nationality etc etc.).

The only reason why any minority group feels the need to 'protect its position' 'march to show the world who it is' etc. etc. is because they are just that - a minority.
If you are the majority, which we as heterosexual white males are - then we have no need to protest or make our feelings known - we are the biggest group - to whom would we be protesting? Ourselves?
Although - that doesn't seem to stop some of us does it?

As you know, AOG holds some sort of AB record for having the last word, and I often simply lose the will to fight about semantics over and over again.
I do admire his tenacity and determination to make his point, but sometimes I feel like we are two ageing metaphorical stags butting heads over a doe of a point of expression, when she has probably wandered off towards Chatterbank in search of some less cantankerous company!
