As Kromo says, this is nothing new, CE has been in use for quite some time - it's doesn't bother me at all, I've used it myself in recent writing.

I reckon many people have no idea what AD stands for anyway and just think of it as a date indicator - BC = prehistoric.

Sorry, Krom's last post wasn't there when I posted. I don't think political correctness is a myth - I think it's very real - so I don't agree with him on that bit. I do, however, think that articles such as the one in your link, AOG, are intended specifically to create conflict and disharmony.

LOL.... the last two paragraphs of the mail article are....

"The BBC said last night: 'The BBC has not issued editorial guidance on the date systems.

'Both AD and BC, and CE and BCE are widely accepted date systems and the decision on which term to use lies with individual production and editorial teams.'"

So this really is a non story, not only is it about something that has been going on for years but the entire story is made up and the "BBC" has not turned it's back on anything.

My wife works for a charity and often has to take down the name of the person phoning for help.

They have all be told not to ask for a persons "Christian" name but their "given" name.

Lets hope not eh!! I love churches, I often walk around churches, fantastic buildings, I would love to take a trip to the Neasden temple in London also.
I just cant help thinking of all the money spent on these buildings though, Im sure it could be put to better use in doing something for the people that actually need it.

VHG - that is nothing new either - the NHS has been using first or given name for years instead of the term Christian name. You only get a Christian name when you are Christened, after all....

The report starts by saying AD/BC have been dropped and ends by saying no guidance has been issued. I don't see the purpose of using CE/BCE since it uses a Christian starting point but this is the Mail stirring things again.
