The Mail was careful to state:

/// They are convinced that the wraiths of both Wing Commander Guy Gibson and his chocolate–coloured Labrador haunt the remote airfield from which the audacious raid was launched. ///

His 'chocolate-coloured' Labrador????? It was Black.

But later they threw all caution to the wind and went on to report:

/// Gibson's Labrador, ***, was the mascot for the squadron that launched an audacious night-time raid on three heavily defended dams deep in Germany's industrial heartland using bouncing bombs ///

/// The Labrador's name was used as a code word whenever one of Germany's Ruhr Dams was breached during the mission.///

Oh dear should they have stated that fact?

But apparently in the remake of the film the dog is to be re-named 'Digger'

Must admit I didn't know it was Australian though.

/// aog think it was this one ,
where eagles dare ///

That was the YouTube link I posted.
"But not by the victims of the raid I presume."

No, you're right. Presumably not by them.

But I think you know exactly what I mean and this side-steps the point somewhat.
aog sorry about that i clicked on your link but just see a couple of germans say you must try my new machine but they don't show it then i watched all the old clips of experimental helicopters.

got there in the end
the last Sherlock Holmes film I saw had the characters discussing going to a "fish and chip store", because that's what Hollywood thinks they're called. (Despite the director being that well known mockney geezer Guy Ritchie, who's probably never been to one either, just sends his valet to them.)

Didn't affect my enjoyment of the film, since you ask.

A good and interesting story about your Granddad, that is indeed history in itself.

When you said your Granddad nearly spoilt the film. I thought you was going to say he ran over the stand-in for N***er. :0)
