The Mail was careful to state:

/// They are convinced that the wraiths of both Wing Commander Guy Gibson and his chocolate–coloured Labrador haunt the remote airfield from which the audacious raid was launched. ///

His 'chocolate-coloured' Labrador????? It was Black.

But later they threw all caution to the wind and went on to report:

/// Gibson's Labrador, ***, was the mascot for the squadron that launched an audacious night-time raid on three heavily defended dams deep in Germany's industrial heartland using bouncing bombs ///

/// The Labrador's name was used as a code word whenever one of Germany's Ruhr Dams was breached during the mission.///

Oh dear should they have stated that fact?

But apparently in the remake of the film the dog is to be re-named 'Digger'

Must admit I didn't know it was Australian though.

Surely JTH if the "n" word is banned it is banned for everyone - no double standards.
it's banned on AB for everyone, so that's all right.

In the outside world, the word isn't banned, but hate speech is. So if the word is used as hate speech then it's banned. If it's not, it isn't.
jno, the "n" word was banned in a brown colour wool, to how do you arrive at your conclusion
For heavens sake........'Historical Accuracy'??? Was the labrador Gibson's Navigator? A wing commander? The chirpy cockernee aircraftsman who saves the day by noticing an unusual sound from the engine.....? No! It was a dog.

If SLJ wants to use the same name for his dog........I doubt if he would.

Brenden - This is the News section and we are talking about Guy Gibson's dog rather than the 'same old, same old' of *that* particular discussion.
suppose that is one way of not answering my question
JTH, i made a comment on a thread you posted.
I've answered all the questions to my complete satisfaction, Dr F.
That you choose to argue with those answers is hardly my concern.
must remember that answer jack and if you don't mind i will use it myself
Whenever you run up against someone who is blindly missing the point, throwing in unconnected diversions and dragging a thread of point.......help yourself.

this thread reminds me of many years back having an argy with my father
film on tv my parents were watching so i start to watch seemed pretty good ii think they were german generals go across some land to a helicopter

i said what a load of crap, my old man says what's wrong now
the helicopter they get in did not come into service till late sixties how can they show a film set near the end of world war two with a modern helicopter

they used a similar model in viet nam, he could see no wrong with this and said it was a good film

would you be happy seeing sherlock holmes get on a bendy bus because they had no hansom cabs available for the film

they should keep the same names and try to be as accurate as possible

/// i don't think calling guy dobsons dog, trigger would change world history.///

Blimey I didn't know that the Guy's surname 'Gibson' was also offensive, but it seems that it is, since it has been altered by Ankou.
