The Mail was careful to state:

/// They are convinced that the wraiths of both Wing Commander Guy Gibson and his chocolate–coloured Labrador haunt the remote airfield from which the audacious raid was launched. ///

His 'chocolate-coloured' Labrador????? It was Black.

But later they threw all caution to the wind and went on to report:

/// Gibson's Labrador, ***, was the mascot for the squadron that launched an audacious night-time raid on three heavily defended dams deep in Germany's industrial heartland using bouncing bombs ///

/// The Labrador's name was used as a code word whenever one of Germany's Ruhr Dams was breached during the mission.///

Oh dear should they have stated that fact?

But apparently in the remake of the film the dog is to be re-named 'Digger'

Must admit I didn't know it was Australian though.

did you know that maximus decimus meridius was actually called reg and he was a spandex wearing east wrestler.

quite different from the gladatorial commander of the roman legions.
ankou the roman legions never had spandex clothing

>> DuPont scientist Joseph C. Shivers invented DuPont's spandex fiber in 1959 after a decade of research. <<
they did. its in all the films.
wasn't that MCMLIX?
>> they did. its in all the films. <<

must be modern films for the modern audience hence the name reg
Which music I listen to, which films I watch and which books I read, have absolutely no bearing whatsoever on the original subject matter in this thread!
"must be modern films for the modern audience hence the name reg"

you're kidding right. these were roman films about romans and filmed in roman times. honestly you are crayzeee.
jack the thread is about a dog's name in a film
So not about Irish Crowds being mown down, or enigma machines, then ?!
i thought it was about pc gone mad or elf and safety or whatever cliche might come next.
examples of lies in flim jack nothing more nothing less and as you have already said
>> The fact remains that altering a dog's name (a dog!!!) is no great issue <<

so why change it, another film another lie
Are you more upset because a minor detail has been altered or that the right to say "n****r" has been removed?
all historical films are lies. Nothing ever happens exactly as you see it on screen. Maybe it was a cloudy day rather than sunny? Maybe King Alfred brushed his hair a different way? Maybe when Russell Crowe says "Unleash Hell", Hell is the name of his dog, or maybe it isn't? All you can do is decide whether an inaccuracy matters or not. This one doesn't.
i don't think calling guy dobsons dog, trigger would change world history.

if you are afraid that might happen, then you need a reality check.
it a annoys me that some people are trying to alter history, while the n word should have no place in modern society, it is still used by some modern rap singers .
yet here is a dog with the n name from history and people are trying to alter it shame some people if annoyed with this word don't complain against some of these modern artists
it is an ethnophaulism and a symbol of white racism bought about by historical context and usage. when rappers or suchlike use it (today) they are either pandering to the stereotype for comedic effect or aiming to identify the inaccuracy of the stereotype attached (historically) to the n word.
>> they are either pandering to the stereotype for comedic effect or aiming to identify the inaccuracy of the stereotype attached (historically) to the n word. <<

a few years back maybe wing commander gibson saw this good honest hard working dog and thought what name can i give my loyal friend which would seem to pander to the stereotype for comedic effect etc
You cannot second-guess what qualities (although considering he was a chocolate brown labrador...perhaps we can) Gibson saw in his dog to call him n****r.

What black people choose to call themselves and other black people is a matter for them, alone.

As I've said, and getting back to the original point...again....it won't affect my enjoyment of the film one single iota!
i dunno, but i can hardly get worked up about the name change in a film.

assaid by peter jackson - "If you change it, everyone's going to whinge and whine about political correctness. And if you don't change it, obviously you are offending a lot of people inadvertently"

maybe they'll just call it nigsy.
>> What black people choose to call themselves and other black people is a matter for them, alone. <<

if wing commander guy gibson was black would it be okay to call his dog n*****

maybe they could get will smith to play his part in the film seeing as you are not bothered about how historically accurate the film is
