// Fifa have rejected a Government request that England and Wales be allowed to wear commemorative poppies in this weekend's friendlies, claiming the move would "jeopardise the neutrality of football." //

Not sure how this is any different than a team wearing black armbands or having a minutes silence before a match. Would it be disrespectful to England's guests to just ignore FIFA and pay any fine that might be imposed?

I'd tell them to Fosters off...................

Bah Umbro!
No need to thank me, Welsh. Fortunately for me, and probably for most of us here in AB, I've never known war, but I do know that those men deserve our gratitude and our respect. They paid the highest price - and they've well and truly earned it.
naomi!.......I totally agree with you!......bless them all, they should be honoured!...all of them!........
I see the poppy fascists are out in force this evening

"See things the way we do or you're a disgrace"

who will be leading the chanting of "Piggy Piggy" tonight?
If FIFA have regulations, why don't we just accept them and get on with the game.

Why has this suddenly been made an issue this year?
jake!.......what is your problem!.....some of us here have lost loved ones in conflict!......have some respect please!..........
Gromit, I said ruling, not rules. Fifa's ruling was No, whatever their rules may say.
This was discussed at length on here yesterday http://www.theanswerb.../Question1073071.html
jno, sorrry!......
Jake, don't be so damned rude! Like it or not, if it wasn't for the human beings - ordinary human beings Jake - who gave their lives for the freedom of this country, you and the people who think like you wouldn't be at liberty to spout your destructive and offensive bile! Remember that - and have the courtesy to think on it!
jno, sorry, but their ruling is totally wrong!.........if the players want to wear the poppy, they should be allowed to do so!.............
My problem is with people telling me what to think and do

When we start down the road of "I think everyoine should..."

I'm sorry but not everone is a big fan of the military

We don't have conscription nobody forced these people to join up and they didn't go out there to build wells they went out there to someone elses country thousands of miles away to kill people.

You may not like this point of view especially if you've military familly but it needs to be said
Rude Naomi?

Ruder than perhaps telling everbody they should think and act like you?

How gauche of me to have my own opinion contrary to yours and unforgivable to speak it!

Perhaps you'd like to tie me up and gag me?

Or house arrest - I think that's the preferred method in China
Since when has football been neutral? Thought the idea was to win. FIFA run by men? They do not seem to be capable of common sense.
Jake, //My problem is with people telling me what to think and do //

No one is telling you what to think and do - they are simply giving their opinions, as you clearly have no hesitation in doing whether or not it offends. Poppy fascists, house arrest and China!! Millions of people have lost their lives and that's your response? Jake, if there's one thing you are it is stupidly and arrogantly insensitive.
you should all know that lefties like jake, jno and co will take any excuse to *** off the military.
Really Naomi? -I must have misread

I could have sworn you said

"I think everyone should wear one"

Personally

I think everbody should be allowed to decide whether or not they support a cause without being dictated to by a sports body or a TV channel or whoever

Don't you?
As England made the mistake of asking FIFA, they should follow its decisions, otherwise, what was the purpose in asking permission? There will be members of the armed forces at the game and there will be a minute's silence. Will ninety minutes without a poppy on their jerseys be such an insult to those who fell in battle?
they died for my right to freely choose whether to wear a poppy. I shall honour them by making my choice.
